Excessive noise level from FlexMax 60 fan

Postby jmvelo27 on Fri Aug 15, 2014 9:43 am

I recently added 8 Sunpower 327 panels to my grid tied, battery back up system. A brand new Flexmax 60 was installed by a Sunpower Elite dealer onto my existing Outback inverters.
My system is working flawllessly, but I am totally upset by the noise level generated by the fan. It is so loud that I can hear it from my living room, two walls down, with all doors in between shut. This high pitch, high decibel sound is unfit for a residential system. My dog cannot stand it either.
I was never informed of such a nuisance when I purchased the Flexmax60 last July. I am demanding a replacement unit or a new, quiet fan. I left two voicemails to customer service but nobody called back. Please respond!

It has always been my opinion, that Power Electronics do not really belong in, or very near any living spaces.

Folks who have these systems installed, often do not like to hear ANY noise of any kind from these systems whatsoever.

Inverters can hum, buzz, and have fans, as well Charge Controllers have relays (that can click), and many have fans.

On the other hand, many Solar electronic devices are much happier, and need fans much less often, when they are in a cool-ish environment. And regarding most Charge Controllers, high-ish PV voltage into them, will make then run hotter, and thus, need to run the any fan/s more often.

Of course, it is always possible that there IS a defect with your CC's fan, and a new one MIGHT make a bit of a difference.

Just my opinions, Good Luck, Vic

When the fan runs on my fm 80 ,the noise cant be described as a high pitch. More a burrr wherrr. I would have it a guess that the fan is faulty.
