AGM Battery Bank with MX60 CC

Post by Greenminer » Wed Dec 18, 2013 8:23 am

I have a very large Absolyte battery bank that I'm trying to utilize 2 MX60 CC on, the problem is one of them is always going to float while the other is either bulking or absorbing, I think my problem is I need to install a hub and mate in which case it should cause both to work together properly, I have RTS utilized and will be adding one 3524 in the near future. any ideas?

Have you verified that your absorb and float settings are identical in both? What are the charge settings you're using (Absorb and Float)?

I have set both to charge bulk at 14.00 , Absorb is RTS controlled (14.30)and i have current option at 20 amps with the Float at 13.8. Using a very reliable DMM they read exactly he same voltage and I even calibrated the voltage to assure this.
The batteries are not new and I am currently trying to determine their condition I have fully charged them they will maintain 2.32 volts per cell and I've performed the GNB recommended EQ series. When I got this bank which consisted of 24-100A33 Absolyte units they were untied and there were 4 bad units visibly the terminals were distorted. I disassembled and reconfigured to make 3 complete 12 volt banks, 2 of which I will reconfigure later to get a large 24 volt bank . I am trying to get he CC system working adequately o maintain them until summer when I can purchase a new 3524 inverter and get set up for redundancy. Thx

I don't have experience with the MX60, but the FM80 has an absorb time, which for most applications should be set to around 4 hours. This would keep the charge controller from going into float. With this in place you will sometimes have one charge controller go down to 0 amps and the other take the load, this is fine as long as they are both in absorb.

I've tried the time function on the fx60 and it reached the absorb setting within about 40 min then went to Float on the other CC. It isn't the same CC all the time either they will take turns going to float. I'm discharging the battery over the next few days and I'm going to see what they do from 50 % DOD. Maybe they will act differently. Thanks for the help I appreciate it.
