MX60 firmware upgradeable?

Post by L3enigma » Tue May 26, 2020 2:20 pm

I have a NOS MX60 unit fresh from a backroom shelf, in a box. Can I, or do I need to, upgrade its firmware? It has what shipped in 2008. I don't find a firmware archive or find any reference to firmware in this section of the forum. Any bread crumbs are appreciated.

I don't believe there are firmware updates for the MX series, or that the units are supported any more.

That being said, the charge controllers are essentially autonomous, and the charging algorithms don't really change with time. The unit certainly would be compatible with any modern PV panels and lead-acid batteries out there.

But, of course, I have Lithium batteries available to build into this system. I didn't expect Lithium charge support from the MX60, but I just want to make sure some other incompatibility with the Radian, if it existed, would not crop up without an attempt at diligence.

Thank you for your prompt response.

Might note that 0B doesn't consider the MX series controllers compatible with lithium batteries.

Any firmware update to the MX60 must be done by Outback, they are not field upgradable. In any case, there's not much to be gained from it. If you have a working unit and can use it for the battery you have (noting Raysun's comment about lithium battery incompatibility) then I would not hesitate to use it, if I were you. FWIW - Mike
