A few years ago I started developing a side product/business that might fit the bill. Maybe I should resurrect it at some point.

At the time I used a Tibbo serial controller (http://tibbo.com/store/programmable/controllers.html). I modified it to have more onboard storage. It would connect via RS-232 to the MATE and pickup the serial messages. It would store/process those messages and then every so often (once a minute?) it would upload the data to Carriots. I was in the process of building a test dashboard and device management when I shelved the project.

You could use Arduino, Tibbo or any device. Basically read and parse the serial messages per the documents referenced. Then decide which action to take.

Yes, indeed i believe that is the faster and simpler solution to read the data: Mate -> serial -> Arduino
