Mate 2 operation with NON outback inverter.

Post by tincup » Fri Nov 29, 2019 8:04 am

I have an FM80 charging my 8 cell AGM battery bank, which feeds a Magnum pure sine wave inverter. I also have a FM60 charging a separate battery bank. Will a Mate2 monitor all three units via a hub? Or, must the inverter be a Outback product? Thanks for your time.

Has to be an Outback product for the Mate2 to connect to it. Also, if there are separate (electrically isolated) batteries then you would need a separate Mate for each battery.

The Mate2 won't work to monitor your inverter. The Hub is a proprietary networking device and while the ports use the same cabling scheme as ethernet, don't plug an ethernet device into it as damage will occur.

The Mate2, plugged directly into the communication port of one of the charge controllers will work, but won't really give any more functionality than the display and buttons on the charge controller itself.

Mike, Thanks for the quick response. Well you just saved me several hundred dollars. I thought I could monitor both CC's on the mate2 via the hub connection. Both my systems are electrically isolated from each other so the mate won't work. The LCD display on the FM60 is very hard to read. Like any LCD display they don't like hot environments, it's like the liquid seeps out of the characters and blurs the whole screen, if that makes any sense. I'm located in the southern California desert and summer temps can, and do, reach 115F.

Thanks again.
