WEBINAR TODAY: Adding Energy Storage for Grid-Tied Inverters

Post by Gwendoly Espe » Tue Mar 12, 2019 7:02 am

Adding Energy Storage for Grid-Tied Inverters
Date: March 15, 2019
Time: 10:00 AM PST ÔÇô 11:00 AM PST

Registration: Click Here to Register!

Class Description:
In many parts of North America, the utility rate structure for renewables has moved from incentive based to effectively punitive by eliminating feed in tariffs, restricting or eliminating net metering, and employing time of use (TOU) rates outside of the solar production window. Therefore, adding storage to the huge base of installed grid tied solar generation systems has never been more relevant or cost effective than now.

Class Objectives:

Understand the options available for adding energy storage to a grid-tied inverter system.
Class Outline

Reasons to add battery storage to an existing renewable energy system.
Drop in replacement option.
DC Coupling option.
AC Coupling option.
Who Should Attend

Solar designers and installers that will be retro-fitting grid-tied inverter systems with energy storage

My RE system: 9 Astronergy 240W-P (3 Unirac mounted serial banks of 3) @ 114VOC / 2.3KWH into FLEXMax 80 charging 2 parallel banks of 4 wet cells (48v) into VFX3648 with CNG fueled 6kW Generac 5837 standby genset. Experiment with Low voltage (3v) dry cell electrolyzer to use hydrogen / O2 as secondary storage.
Location: Atlanta Georgia (southside 'burbs)

Gwendoly, just a general question, is Outback Power doing any research/product development in the FuelCell/Hydrogen dept?

New HHO electrolyzer designs are slowly emerging that separate the "H2" and "O" while being produced am very interested in pure Hydrogen as a "storage medium" (yes know if "mixed" can be highly dangerous) and a FuelCell as a FLEXMax energy source for night-time use as well?

ie: Keep batteries "in the middle" but do not excessively discharge overnight at all.

Currently have 2 X 20plate dry cells that, connected in series, utilizes a 24/36v battery tap to produce a HHO mix that is still basically useless for saving and/or compression. During daytime use am utilizing diversion function to run electrolyzers but to no real point, lol "where's the beef"? ](*,)

When in charging mode run HHO mix to genset carburetor to boast CNG fuel economy, power output? Truly do feel a solar-powered hydrogen economy behind FuelCell tech is the future, only way to go!

A typical experimental dry-cell H2 & O separator gasket is here \:D/

I believe it's the talented, very experienced Mark Mays giving this presentation. For those who don't know him, he's our AC Coupling expert for many years. He worked closely on testing the new AC Coupling functionality.
