OpticsRE reporting extra power?

Postby raysun on Thu Dec 28, 2017 4:00 pm

Looking at my OpticsRE dashboard, the summary information confuses me a little bit. I have a single solar array, a single FlexMAX80 controller feeding a single 48V battery bank. I am off-grid and today, when these readings are taken, am not running a generator. On the inverter, AC IN is in dropped state and charger is disabled.

With solar being the sole charging source, the dashboard shows slightly more power going into the battery than being produced by the solar array.

I don't know if this is something anomalous in the system measurement that OpticsRE is reporting faithfully, or if its an artifact of OpticsRE itself.

Any clues, anyone?

Same here. I was thinking possibly something to do with today’s upgrade and was going to wait a day or two before reporting.

Actually, I noticed it a couple of weeks ago, before the upgrade, but the new display reincorporating battery data into the summary report makes it more apparent.

I had a couple instances of stray solar production which I reported. David Lebow thought today’s fix might work.
Last one was about 23.9 kw around midnight

Hello all,

Stray production should be fixed. If you notice it again, let me know right away.

I'm digging in to the discrepancies outlined above. There are a few issues which will be at play here, but I've not yet been able to convince myself that that's all of the issue. We're analyzing it as we speak.

(Bearing in mind that I'm a software geek and not a power engineer,) here are a few of the things which will play into it:

* I'm told that the readings off the shunts in the FN-DC are more accurate than others in the system, so some level of measurement inaccuracy can be playing a partial role.

* The readings off the shunts have a higher precision (.01 kW vs. .1 elsewhere), so there will be some collection of rounding error. Keeping in mind that this differential takes place not once per day but once at every reading (i.e., every 15 seconds), it can add up.

* There are some inefficiencies in the power conversions. We don't get exactly 100% of production into 100% of storage, load, etc.

* The devices themselves use some amount of power

But... we're looking into it. I agree that on face value, the display on the dashboard appears a bit counterintuitive, even if the discrepancies are small.

More news as it develops.

Thanks David. I appreciate the explanation, and the effort to improve accuracy.

My system is an older Flexnet One, factory pre-wired. Can I assume measurements are being taken from the shunts installed in the system?

Looking at the data from your site received by Optics, I see data arriving off the FN-DC on Port 3. It reports out through the Mate3.
