System changes, misc and AGS

Postby JRHill on Thu Dec 06, 2018 2:59 pm

Last spring I went through a change in sat/internet providers which changed all the addresses. During that previous time I was using my WattPlot Pro subscription due to the connection issues with Optics. Afterward this spring, well, I was then out of the house so minimal computer time. So nothing worked afterward. A few days ago I updated the M3 firmware and yesterday reconfigured for OpticsRE. Hey, Outback folks, good work! The connection works great! OpticsRE works!

Andrew, I still love ya and WattPlot. I wish that both could be used simultaneously and for different reasons. A bit later I'll reconfigure WattPlot's net config and update as necessary.

Here is the point of this post: To thank those who have devoted a BUNCH of hours into making things better. Yeah, its a bit geeky. But I esp. enjoy seeing stuff mature.

Best,
Jim

Oh, related to AGS, from OpticsRE is started w/in 15 sec and took a few min. to update locally. Pretty cool.

We are not away from our home often enough, or long enough, to enjoy the benefits of OpticsRE.
Yet, that is...
One day.

In the past, I never could get OpticsRE to work completely with my Internet lashup here in the Hawaiian hinterlands. Trying to issue commands would result in the system simply hanging. The reporting worked well enough to keep track of status, generally.

Enter WattPlot, with its local network connection, commands executed without fail. Its reporting never really worked on my system however.

With Andrew announcing he was stopping development and most support for WattPlot, I stopped using it. (After a local computer reconfig, I could never get WattPlot to communicate via my LAN, and the USB interface driver no longer worked either.)

Much to my suprise and delight, OpticsRE commands started working for me about the same time. Huzzah!

Thanks OpticsRE team for continued application improvement, and as important, continued support for "legacy" systems like my FX based FlexPower One.

I appreciate the comment about support for legacy systems:
I have an aging VFX3524. She’s a beauty. I value that support ‘big time’.

I access OpticsRE multiple times a day and that’s when I’m home. Usually it’s just a quick check on how the day has been, either because of use or weather. Wife can ask, how’s the power and i can just pull it up on my ipad or iphone. Love it.
