Auto Reboot Interval

Postby gkallio on Sat Feb 10, 2018 11:35 am

Is it good practice to have the Auto Reboot Interval (ARI) set to some time interval rather than disabled? Is there a downside to having the MATE3 auto-reboot at regular intervals? I currently have ARI disabled.

My connectivity is pretty stable; however, there have been 2-3 instances in the past year when the gateway went offline due to software changes and maintenance of our campus wireless networking system. The system eventually recovered on its own but I'm wondering if the downtime would have been shortened in I had enabled the ARI.

FYI - I am using firmware 3.15.5

Any advice? Thanks, GK

Hi GK,

The auto-reboot interval is mainly there as a workaround to sites with somewhat chronic connectivity issues. If your Mate3 stays connected and reconnects reliably when there's a drop in connectivity (Internet outage, power outage, server-side software update)... I would say leave it disabled, especially if it's easy enough to manually power cycle the Mate3 if it does get "stuck" occasionally.

If the system's miles away with sketchy Internet connectivity, consider the auto-reboot interval.

Does that help any?

Yes, thanks David! I plan to leave it disabled. GK

I had my Mate 3 stop working altogether while I was there. The only way I could get it to work again was by re-plugging its port. I am normally 480KMS from the site so I have enabled 24 hour auto reboot. It's been like that for 10 days now and there has been no downside. All event logs are complete etc.
