I currently get Optics alerts at my email address, but I sometimes don't check email often enough to take action if it's needed.

There's a way to send email to text using my cell carrier's email to text format, which for AT&T is cell number@txt.att.net. So where in OpticsRE does this address go? Is it the email address listed in my profile under primary contact (me)?

Thanks in advance. - Mike

Changing your account's email address to your email to text address will send all account related messages to your phone. May or may not be a good thing.

How about setting up another account by inviting yourself to the profile? The mobile you will need full control to select alerts, etc.

I agree, may not be good. I just want alerts there...

If I do this can I set it up so only alerts come to the second account? Optics gives 3 options, monitoring only, limited control, full control. Will one of these only send alerts?

I'm not sure as I don't use the alert email feature. I do know the 2nd account needs Full Control to configure the alert options. After that, it may be able to be reset to Monitor Only.

Okay, I'm trying full control now & have set up the alerts I want. We'll see how that works first. Thanks!

I set up a secondary account to send alerts to my phone. That works (with a bit of OpticsRE login clumsiness as I use my phone for both accounts.)

"Demoting" the 2nd account to Monitor Only after having it Full Control to set up the alerts seems to work fine. The monitoring account receives the alerts.

Having never used this stuff before, some of it is a mystery. What are Notifications? How does it differ from Alerts? How are Notifications set up?

Interesting message:

Hi,Thank you for your continued use of OpticsRE.We've noticed that your account has been receiving a large number of immediate alert emails for the systemSYSTEM1.In order to reduce email congestion, a batch email will be sent every 60 minutes.Delivery of alerts will resume normally once the amount of outgoing alerts to this email address reaches normal levels. If you are receiving too many emails we provide the option to select delivery rates for individual messages. Just navigate to theSystem Toolsmenu by clicking the cog icon in the top right corner when viewing a systemDashboard, then clickAlerts -> (+) Add or change your alerts. When done making adjustments clickSave Changes. The OPTICS Team from OutBack Powersupport@outbackpower.com

We do that as an email safeguard against getting marked as spam if a system is rapidly sending a lot of repeat events.

I became more interested in them when my Skybox system with Simpliphi batteries had a high voltage excursion (see this thread: http://outbackpower.com/forum/viewtopic ... 47&t=15344) and I didn't see the email alert until 2-1/2 hours after it first started, while battery voltage remained high for the entire period. Thus my interest in sending alerts via email to text.

It works. Cool.

I can have the 2nd account idle, and set alerts when diagnostics are needed.
