AGM Battery Settings? EnergyCell PLR?

Post by mhspohr » Fri Sep 11, 2020 2:24 pm

I have two strings of 4 x 12v 100 ah AGM batteries used for backup only, not daily cycling.
Trying to set these up in Skybox but not finding clear information about proper settings.
The Skybox just has preset parameters for EnergyCell PLC, PLR and RE High Capacity. Everything else is "Custom" with lots of parameters to set.
I'm tempted to just use one of the EnergyCell presets... but which one?
PLR is an AGM "pure lead" battery
REHC is valve regulated agm
They don't seem to carry the PLC any more
Would the PLR profile be appropriate?
Otherwise, I'm deep into the weeds on 16 different parameters to set for "Custom"

What is the brand/model of the battery monoblocks?

These are Weize 12V 100AH Deep Cycle AGM SLA VRLA Battery TL12100 (total of 8 in two strings)

Just noticed that these are labelled as AGM VRLA type.
Perhaps the EnergyCell RE profile would be better?

There is not a lot of specific information on the model, but it looks to be a fairly generic AGM VRLA battery of Chinese manufacture.

The Energycell 106RE would probably be fairly close behavior and charging profile wise. If choosing a pre-made profile, that won't be too far off the mark.

Two items to be aware of:

* The 106RE is rated at 106AH @ C/100 (hundred hour discharge rate) and about 90AH @ C/10. The TL12100 is rated (in the marketing material) at 100AH @ C10. On paper the difference is about 10%, but I'm going to assume the 100AH @ C10 is "generous" so the two should line up fairly close in re.: capacity and state of charge.

* The 106RE specifies a 2 Hour Absorb Time, and I assume that's what's in the profile. The TL12100 may or may not tolerate 2H Absorb. During the first few charge cycles watch the net charge flow to the battery near the end of the Absorb Time. It should decline to roughly 4-8 Amps (2-3% of C20 AH capacity.) If this Charged Return Amps is reached in less than 2 hours, consider reducing the Absorb Time to the amount of elapsed time needed.

Thanks very much for this information. I'll try that profile and watch the absorb current.
