FX3048T Firmware update

My strictly off-grid system is built around a Flexpower One with FX3048T inverter. (The inverter was already obsolete at the time of installation, but it was what our local supplier had at the time.) One minor issue is during various configuration activities a warning message pops up stating that the firmware needs updating. The reported firmware version is 67.0.0

Is there a firmware update for this inverter? If so, the firmware field updateable or does it require factory service?

Also, is the service manual for the FX3048T available? (The website returns a 404 when clicking on the appropriate link.)

Could you tell me which link is broken (target link) and what page you found the link on?

Is this not what you're after? http://www.outbackpower.com/downloads/d ... manual.pdf

I'm 98.5% certain that the firmware is not field upgradeable. That said, I checked out your system in Optics and Optics seems quite happy with that inverter/firmware version - as if a firmware update weren't required.

Where are you seeing the warning message pop up? Could you post a screen shot (Optics) or picture? (Inverter, Mate3S)

Thanks.

David

Hey David, thanks for the quick and inclusive response. The service manual attachment is appreciated.

I was having trouble downloading from http://www.outbackpower.com/products-mo ... ed-fx3048t, but it works now, so is a non-issue.

If the firmware on the FX3048T is not causing any issue with OpticsRE (as appears to be the case) then I will ignore the warnings. If I see one pop up again (I can't recall exactly where I saw it last) I will post - FYI.

I plan on purchasing another inverter for the system. We live way out in the sticks (actually on a lava field, so we have to import sticks) and am looking at the FXR3048A-01. Can I assume thus unit would be "plug compatible" in replacing the FX3048T in my Flexpower One installation? The existing inverter would be kept as a backup unit should we experience failure on the on-line unit.

Whoops... now you've done it. You've fired over my head with that one. I'm just the resident software geek.

I'll forward it on to Tech Support. They'll have a better answer.

I'm not OutBack Tech Support but I can tell you the FX3048T has been replaced with the newer FXR3048A inverter. The two inverters are not compatible with each other.

Needless to say adding a second inverter for a FLEXpower ONE (FP1) is not for the faint of heart. The FP1 is a great power panel but it isn't very easy to expand. You will probably be better off selling the FP1 panel and then getting a new FLEXpower TWO (FP2) panel that already has 2 of the newer FXR model inverters installed or go with the FLEXpower Radian (FPR) system. The main benefit of the FPR would be if you have 2 AC sources like two different generators. If you have one (or less) AC sources then the FP2 is perfectly suitable.

Thanks,

-Kurt

So are you asking about a one for one inverter replacement or adding a second inverter? I read as replacement, but could be wrong.
IÔÇÖm curious as to the answer as to replacement as I have an order system with 4 FX3048T inverters that I can see needing replacement in future and wonder if a direct swap out is doable or if I will have to upgrade to a Radian.

I am looking to replace the FX3048T in my Flexpower One with an FXR3048A-1. I'll keep the FX3048T on the shelf as a spare should the installed inverter ever need to be taken off for service.

Hopefully Kurt or someone from OB will return and answer from that perspective.

Where is your lava field?

Yes, I don't see an issue with the physical replacemebt, but I might not know where to look.

We abut HVNP at the Kahuku unit. Overlooking South Poibt.

My thinking also. My are mounted in the older PS4. IÔÇÖve upgraded to FM80s from Mx60s, but also wonder how the environment is on the breakers and other components.

We are on the green side, between Hilo and Laupahoehoe.

Hi raysun,

The FXR3048A-1 will fit in place of the FX3048T.

As far as I know the FXR3048A-1 model only works with the Mate3S controller. If you only have a Mate3 then you should plan on upgrading that as well.

The FLEXware AC and DC breaker boxes on the FP1 panel are extremely compact and screw into the top/bottom of the Inverter respectively. I've wired more than one of these panels from scratch and I can tell you it is a pain in the watt. You should plan on having a second set of hands around and it isn't a bad idea to take the whole panel off the wall first. I suggest you take pictures inside both breaker boxes before removing any wires so you have an example to reference. Finally double...no.. triple check your battery polarity with a multi-meter from the hot side of the 175A DC breaker to the Inverter negative battery terminal before turning on the 175A breaker.

See page 3 of this quick start guide for step by step instructions on how to commission the system. Remember you will need to reprogram the Inverter if you use it for charging with a generator.

Thank you Kurt. It sounds like I'm in for a lot of fun. ;)

I have a Mate3s on my system now.
