adding a FM60 to an FP1

A place where users can meetup with other FlexPower One users and can find support for one another. A great place for people who have not purchased the FlexPower One yet to look up information.

adding a FM60 to an FP1

Postby Ryan on Wed Dec 04, 2013 12:41 pm

We are going to be installing a FP1 with the VFX3648 inverter, FM80 charge controller. We have 21 Grape solar 250w panels.... only 15 can go on the FM80 so we are adding an additional FM60 for the other 6 panels. They will be charging 12 -200AH batteries.

What changes to to FP1 do I need to make for the addition of the extra charge controller?

Thanks for the help

You will need to add an additional PV breaker and switch from the single GFDI to the dual GFDI.

Here is the finished (to this point) installation.

I say "to this point" because the client called today and wants to extend the battery bank. We will be adding an additional cabinet and 12 more batteries shortly. It has been working flawlessly since we put it in.

Nice install, when adding 2nd charge controller is it not necessary to change settings so both work together without conflict?

We would like to do a similar upgrade - add a FM80 charge controller to our FlexPower One - but I believe on a call with Outback Tech Support they said the MATE can't read another device and the display wouldn't be accurate - ? Is someone able to please clarify how we can overcome this?

Also - is someone able to detail further the change out from single to dual GFDI? Many thanks!

On page 6 of the Mate user manual (Rev A copyright 2007) it says "a single Outback Mate can ...link to as many as ten FX series inverter/chargers, OutBack charge controllers (my emphasis) and additional future Outback Power System products". I believe it handles extra CC's the same way as multiple FX's, through port assignments.

As far as dual GFDI, the one I installed in 2007 already has an extra breaker ganged for dual use (see schematic photo). If you're lucky yours may too.
