GS8048 replacement with GS8048A-01

Post by linel » Fri Dec 06, 2019 10:42 am

I'm about to replace my GS8048 with a new GS8048A-01.

Cursory examination seems to indicate the replacement is a wiring copy of the old inverter, i.e. wire it correctly, power it up and I should be good to go.

The system includes a GSLC, Mate3, Flexnet, Legacy Hub16.

I'm not grid connected. Neither does my generator connect to the GS.

Does anyone with experience have any thoughts on this?

I'm curious as to why the inverter is being replaced? Is the old one defective in some way? Since the inverter is neither connected to grid, nor to a generator, there doesn't seem to be much in the updated unit to exploit.

Since 2011 I've had 3 control board failures and one inverter module is currently failed for which I've not been able to find a Spare-201.

When I have the 8048A working I may ship the bad module back to Outback for repair. But from my location the shipping and customs and VAT costs are so significant I hesitate to throw good money after bad.

Ensure your MATE3 is at firmware Version 003.017.000 (OPTICS RE) or higher. Older firmware versions of MATE3 are not compatible with the new GS8048A-01. ALL MATE3s are compatible with GS8048-01.

Then I would check all of your AC Input Current Limits. This App Note covers the limits to check: Upgrading to GS8048A-01

Unfortunate, but sensible. All of us with a single inverter unit have that in the back of our minds.

Fortunately, the swap should be straight forward.

Best of luck.

From what I have read the big difference between the 48 and 48A are the better board components.. The 48A and the 48a1 is more of a software and self stress monitoring that prevents working to self destruction..
