Hi LeBow,
I had this problem for the last 2 years, Have a look at www.lsdx.eu/GPV_ZSDX: there should be one line each hour as my 3G modem is on about 10 minutes per hour (security)
Presently I am using the 03.015.005 firmware read Mate3 with a python script in a Raspberry Pi and send the data to my web page by 3G
What about Mate3S. If I could be sure that communication problem is fixed I might make the expense.
Bye
Lionel

Oh├® Oh├®!!! Anyone around?
Still waiting for answers about that damned cat5 cable erratically recognized by Mate3
as you may see on lsdx.eu/ZSDX which should show on line per hour
Waiting

Bye Lionel

My own system (Raspbzerry Pi, Router Modem 3G and a Python script) is lit up once an hour to send some data read on Mate3 to http://www.lsdx.eu/GPV_ZSDX .
But that damnd Ethernet cable out of Mate3 is only erraticaly recognized by Mate3 so the result is rather poor (totay at 18:57 Europe only one hour received)
??? I am on the latest firmware version Anyone would have a 2012 version which did work???
??? I reboot auto once evey 24Hrs. Is there a way to reboot inside my script???
??? Are users of Mate3S satisfied on the particular issue

Thanks for any tip
Lionel from France

Hi everybody from over the Atlantic!

To solve this communication issue, anyone has tested Mate3S.
I am ready to make the expense, provided I am sure that it works properly

Bye

Hello every one, (aliens included)
Some information about my system:

It has been working pretty well this warm summer. We left 2 week ago and it is getting cold up there (10-15┬░) and Mate3 is again badly sputtering (1 transmission yesterday Sept 9th against a normal 24 a day). As my Mate3 did not work at all last winter I wonder whether the low temperature would be an element to aggravates that behavior. Next time I come up there (next week) I shall try to keep it warm somehow (a light bulb?) .

Unless the absence of the boss is destabilizing the whole gimmick but its unlikely because whene I am around I don't fool around on my system, rather more fox and rabbit and marmots and deer watching.

Still waiting for some sort of encouragement to try Mate3S at my own expense ....
Good luck to all.

Apparently, you haven't read, or answered, your inbox since July 7th, 2017 either. =D>

The forum is still here and I don;t see them still running it if OB all ran away. ](*,)
...but nothing from OB would / wouldn't surprise me, now.

Hi LeBow,
To put my problem on top again...
In the southern french Alps, offgrid, I installed in 2012: 2kWp + 30kWh batts managed by FP1-34 including Mate3
I monitor whith a Router-Modem-3G and a raspberryPi that are lit up once an hour i.e. I connect to the web once an hour
Raspi reads Mate3 ('http://192.168.0.64/Dev_status.cgi?&Port=0') and sends the results on my webpage lsdx.eu/GPV_ZSDX

It did work well from July 2012 to October 2013 then started sputtering as you can see now.
Some of the problems are mine (two readings 9 minutes apart for the same hour) but the main problem is no reading at all whether through my transmission system or directly on my computer linked to the router

I have 003.015.005 firmware
reboot every hour

Would there be an outside command (python on the RaspberryPi) to reboot while internet is on?

I am trying AXS port (another 250$ gone!) but have not managed yet even with Andrew Welsh's WattPlot ans help.

More info as needed
Yours
Lionel

Hi Lionel:

I know you don't have a lot of time to try out things, so I'll try to stick to the established facts. The evidence seems incontrovertible - the most serious Ethernet problems in the MATE firmware seem to correspond to the introduction of OPTICSre and the later releases. Firmware in the 002.nnn.nnn range seems to be much more solid - and I have had a number of clients roll back their MATE3 firmwares with good results. For some history (and possible access to older firmware releases, please see this page.
SEYLIONE wrote:reboot every hour. Would there be an outside command (python on the RaspberryPi) to reboot while internet is on?
I know that OutBack was going this route too, but constant rebooting is a pretty pathetic workaround. I would try for something better.
SEYLIONE wrote:I am trying AXS port (another 250$ gone!) but have not managed yet even with Andrew Welch's WattPlot and help.
I think we could have gotten your Modbus issues with WattPlot Monitor and the AXS Port resolved fairly quickly. However, it is also important to note that Modbus was a retrofit into WattPlot Monitor. Clients use it and it works, but it was not designed to be there.

WattPlot ACKcess, on the other hand, was totally designed for Modbus/TCP, and only accepts that communication protocol. We have had some excellent results in the field, and it just keeps getting better. It is perfect for the AXS Port device (better even than a MATE3 connection). You can download a copy at any time, and I will get you going.

It may also be worth noting that I have seen reports from the field indicating that the MATE3S may still have intermittent Ethernet connection issues, but I can't comment on these directly - I don't have a MATE3S to test.

Always eager to help you out...

I tried setting the Mate 3 to reboot daily in an attempt to fix this. Not only didn't it fix the problem, but after a week and a half the mate froze, wouldn't start the generator, and wouldn't allow a charge from the solar panels. After 3 days and $1,000 in travel expenses we made it back to the site simply to do a hard reboot of the Mate 3 (and turn off the daily reboot).

I do believe the Mate 3S has fixed this. I did upgrade my old unit to the new one and I have seen better performance in terms of network connectivity. It will still get hung up if you have a genuine network outage and it won't recover like many other network devices will. Mine has been running for several weeks now without an issue. If this is truly bothering you you should upgrade your old unit for the new one. I'd like to hear from Outback whether or not there was improvements made to the new unit, specifically around the ethernet connectivity and what those improvements were.

Just out of the chute, the Mate3S has additional - what's the technical term - "oomph" in terms of available memory and processor power. We believe that there are some cases of the Mate3's Ethernet issues which are related to temporary conflicts or shortages. The Mate3S shouldn't suffer those.

The Mate3 and Mate3S team are doggedly working on a new release for each device and I've been watching the trouble ticket chatter go by. They have identified, confirmed and fixed a number of issues which were causing various communications and "data replay" issues, so I'm pretty sure that the upcoming releases will bring another large round of improvements - also for the older Mate3.

And, for those interested: viewtopic.php?f=39&t=13002

By October 1st, things get wrong again: my Raspberry Python script cant read the data on Mate3 (File len = 0)
Did the file name change /? The one I am trying to load is http://192.168.0.64/Dev_status.cgi port 0

I am running Mate3 under firmware 003.017.001. Worked well from August to now (look at lsdx.eu/GPV_ZSDX).
I am lost! Any tip?

I have a Mate3s which generally refuses to reconnect if I have a network issue on my LAN. As soon as I do a restart it connects OK.

A couple of suggestions

1 - Would it be possible to write in the software that if the Mate3S is in "connecting" status for more than 30 minutes (or similar) then it would automatically reboot itself. This would avoid the necessity to use the reboot timer for users how don't have any issues. (my network is normally fairly stable just occasionally someone come along with a MAC and that seems to upset it)??

2 - When my LAN is online I can communicate with the Mate3S over ip - it would be really useful if I could initiate a restart from my computer.

3 - I have an ongoing issue with my Mate3s always saying the SDcard is write protected - I have tried numerous solutions to stop this, have written to outback support but always get the same answer (try a new card format etc.etc.) , tried to contact the local agent in Australia all to no avail - therefore when my system goes off line the data is always lost.
I would like someone to offer a solution as this is a new unit. (purchased June 2018)

Thanks. We're continually looking for ways to improve our products.

It has that feature, though I think the timeout is one hour. But, we've fixed many connectivity issues, including a bug that could cause the Ethernet processor to stop communicating if Internet service was lost but the Ethernet link was still active. The hardest part for us is reproducing connectivity issues. Once we can repro, we can discover the root cause and test that the change actually fixed the problem.

That would be a potential security vulnerability so we probably won't implement it. You can restart from Optics, though if the connection is down, that's not very helpful.

I will send a PM to see if we can identify the issue.

Hi,

Came back here to see what other people are seeing. My MATE3 dies and was replaced under warranty. My MATE3s is suffering from the exact same network issues. There was one firmware version a while back that was MUCH better. Stupidly I did not write down which one, I might go and try several.

My issues specifically is that it stops responding to any network traffic (ping, http, modbus). Tried different switches and cables etc

In my case, my Mate 3S is connected to an ethernet switch, that connects to another ethernet switch and then that connects to my router and my router to my cable modem. My connectivity is reliable. Can you please provide some information about the topography of your network and connections?

HI there!! New to the board, My mate 3 stopped communicating with the outside world a while back. The Ethernet processor just simply stopped working after the upgrade from 3.09 to 3.11. I originally got the Mate 3 (from Amazon) with 2.XXXX software, the first upgrade went without issues and I got more functions too boot. Then after the next firmware upgrade, it just went wrong. I narrowed it down to the mismatch of the Firmware between the Processor and Ethernet board. I saw it somewhere when I was looking it up. My Ethernet Firmware seem to be stuck at 3.09 everything else is going up and down if I upgrade or downgrade. Does anyone here happen to have a copy of 3.09 for the Mate3 as I cant find it anywhere on outback's site or on the net in general. I have all the other firmware versions except that one. Just to add more info, If I downgrade to 2.XXX, the Ethernet port wakes back up, gets an IP from the router just fine, but cannot be contacted on said IP address. The Mate3 works fine outside of this, but without the net connection, the time seems to drift and I have to reset it every now and again for time sensitive things like when I switch over to the grid.

If any one can help me out by making that Version of the firmware available, that would be great.

Steven

Have you tried upgrading to the latest version 003.019.001? http://www.outbackpower.com/resources-m ... re-updates

If that does not work, you might consider sending it in for repair, or upgrading to a MATE3S.

Thanks for the reply Ian,

yes I did try all the available upgrades and nothing works. I have just purchased a AXS port to replace this functionality. Pity, because this is why I bought the MATE3 and it didn't last more than 7 Months. I got an RMA form from David Johnson, but I work in the oil sector and am never home so I never got a chance to send it in. All good, let see where the AXS Port sends me.
