Another Mate3 Ethernet issue

Post by gregorio » Thu May 28, 2020 2:25 pm

Upgrading my Mate3 to the newest FW and now the Ethernet port is dead. Before I shell out $ for a Mate3s, I read the following;

"Try downloading the latest firmware from the website and placing it onto the root of the MATE3S SD Card. Then, put the SD card into the MATE3S and hold the "Up" button until you see it go into bootloader mode. If the ethernet port is frozen, this may unfreeze it."

Two questions, will this work on the Mate3 (not S) and will it take my system offline while it is working?

If the problem is corrupt firmware, then an update might well resolve it.

Installing the latest Mate3 firmware (not Mate3s) will not take any other system component off line.

You are playing loose with the terms Mate 3 and Mate 3S. The Mate 3 is discontinued. And the Mate 3 will not play nice with a Radian on the latest firmware. Please make sure only Mate 3 firmware is flashed to a Mate 3 and Mate 3S firmware to a Mate 3S. Mixing them is BAD.

Not playing loose at all. I have a Mate3 on the appropriate (Version 003.019.001) firmware for that device class. I am also aware that if it has failed and needs to be replaced, it will need to be with a Mate3s.

What specifically is the issue with the Mate3 and the "latest" Radian (Version 001.006.070) firmware.

The latest radian firmware only supported Mate3s. My Mate 3 kept rebooting due to incompatibility and was upgraded at no cost to me by outback during the warranty period. That solved all problems.

Interesting. The FW does not say it is incompatible and I am not seeing any reboots. Thanks for letting me know to look for it.

So, tried to do the FW update again and it would not work. I still have a dead Ethernet port. If I have to replace it with a Mate3S, is it as simple as plugging it in and restoring the old config from the Mate3?

Yes, that's pretty much it.

The 3s may have some extra features for your inverter, so it will be good to walk through the configs, but everything the Mate3 knows, the Mate3s knows.

If your system is already on OpticsRE (I'm guessing not), the new MAC address will need to be swappped manually by someone on the OB team to retain the whatever historical data is up there. If the system has never been registered with OpticsRE, then you would be starting new.
