Call for Mate3 / Mate3S / AXS Port Beta Testers

Post by David LeBow » Thu Apr 12, 2018 11:05 am

Hello!

We are a few weeks away from releasing new firmware versions for our AXS Port, Mate3 and Mate3S controller devices. We have been working feverishly to correct a number of communications, reconnection, data replay issues after disconnect as well as a number of other bugs and buglets.

We are looking for volunteers to test the beta software before it is officially released. We're particularly interested in sites which have experienced controller <- -> Optics communications issues in the past. The beta-test window is roughly two weeks.

What's involved:

1) Download, print, sign and scan the attached beta test agreement.

2) Return it to me via private message here on the forum, noting your OpticsRE site name and your current controller type and firmware version.

3) We will get you details on where to obtain the zipped firmware release and where and how to communicate your test results.

4) Update your controller to the beta firmware version

5) Reconfigure your controller to talk to the OpticsRE Beta servers

6) Use and Monitor your system, its Optics connectivity and report any success and/or failure details to us during the beta period as defined in step 3).

7) At the end of the beta, reconfigure your controller to talk to the OpticsRE production servers again.

Note: the data sent to the beta servers during the beta test will not be able to be "moved" into the production servers upon completion of the beta period. There will be a gap in your production data for the duration of the beta test.

Questions? Post 'em here!

Looking forward to some intrepid beta testers to help us squash some of our gnarlier Mate3 issues!

David

It's a smaller bug, of course. Pig, piglet. Bug, buglet.

Ask me anything.

David--wasn't sure how to get this beta tester agreement to you (can't attach to PM) so will just attach it here.

Let me know what I can do to help.

MATE3 beta testing is still under way and we need more volunteers to help us complete thorough testing before final release. Please post a response on this thread if you are interested in participating in the MATE3 firmware beta test.

Thank you,

Hi,

My MATE3 was replaced with a MATE3s under warranty. The network issues however still persist. In my case it can be reproduced 100% of the time by putting a large load on the generator (it's undersized) causing the inverter to drop AC-IN. At that point the MATE3 stops responding to any IP traffic.

My network switch is actually directly powered from the battery bank so should not seen any impact.

I work in IT and be very happy to do any testing (it's a recreational property however, so not always there). This problem needs to be solved permanently. I'm very close to selling all this stuff. The data integration is why I picked Outback

Hi Bas,

Is your network switch powered directly by the 12V DC from the battery?

Note, your battery bank is relatively small, about 150Ah at C/20 if my estimate is correct. Therefore, the cascading effects of the over-sized load are likely to draw the battery bank's DC voltage down and out of the acceptable range to the network switch. That would cause a temporary loss of connectivity, no?

That may explain why the connectivity loss only happens when you connect the over-sized load.

What is your goal with placing the over-sized load on the generator? Or the large load on the under-sized generator, depending on how one looks at it.

Hi Ian,

It's a 48V system with a very high quality DC-DC converter to feed the switch with 5V. But even if the switch would have a hickup, that should should not take out the Mate3s ability to recover from it. TCP/IP was very much designed for non perfect communication.

There is several other pieces connected to the same switch, and none of them experience similar issues.

What sort of voltage is the MATE3 getting? Since the system is multi voltage, I'm assuming that the MATE3 is getting 12V (ie a DC-DC downconversion from 48V)

Hi Bas,

You have a MATE3S now, right? It uses a 22 V rail.

Have you tried using Auto Reboot Interval? We have a new MATE3S firmware coming out soon with a number of connectivity fixes, but the ABI may help in the meantime.

Hi,

Correct MATE3s

I have auto reboot set to 1h, and it seems the MODBUS connection (that I use for data collection) comes back. The web page however stays dead. We often use that as a quick way on our phones to see how the system is doing.

That is odd. Bas, I cannot find any OPTICS site named "basrijn". What is the current name of your OPTICS site?
