mate3 local web interface improvements?

Post by unicornio » Thu May 21, 2015 4:56 pm

this is a call of attention to software developers team at Outback:
really can not expect more improvements in the web interface included in the MATE3 for use locally?
can not improve the appearance?
not include graphics and stadistics?
not include remote controls and change settings?
really you can do all this from the internet and donot can do locally?

I personally think that the OpticsRE system is very good, but I think it is more important and has a more rational use, and is more comercial to configure and monitor the whole solar plant completely in the site via mate3 local web server...

I agree that it would be nice if the built in web interface had some major improvements. While working for OutBack tech support I quickly noticed that the web interface missed the mark for most customers. The tech savvy customers were frustrated by the limitations of the interface (no control, no online data logging, no emailed alerts/warnings etc). The Mate/Mate2 along with a serial connection to a computer offered more control/monitoring options and even 3rd party software like Watt Plott, Winverter, or Greenhouse PC. Most of the other customer base has problems with setting up port forwarding to view the web interface on a WAN. At first tech support tried to help set up port forwarding, but it typically took 1-4 hours on the phone. Spending hours on the phone to help one customer with a 3rd party product wasn't sustainable, nor was it fair to the other installers/customers.

For the tech savvy customers OutBack added an optional USB card interface for the Mate3. Via the USB card 3rd party software developers have added a dazzling array of system control and monitoring options. For a more industrial solution OutBack created the AXS Port. The AXS translates ModBUS TCP into OutBack language and vice versa. If you know C and like to program then the AXS port is an excellent solution for LAN control/monitor of your OutBack system. (On a side note when I was in support I pointed customers to your site as an excellent example of what could be done with the Mate3 datastream).

For the rest of us OutBack created OPTICSre. It is super simple to set up, and offers more system control than any other inverter manufacturer. This is what the bulk of the customer base was asking for. It still isn't perfect yet, but OutBack has a lot of resources dedicated toward continual improvement of the interface.

hello, Kurt,
thank you very much for your answer ...

I think the web interface included in the MATE3 has great potential to be exploited, and the main change can happens to be more aesthetically attractive and more intuitive, with more graphics and less figures ... I'm really thinking of ordinary users who have their solar plant and they may have internet connection or not have it, but it's always very useful and a great commercial advantage to have a remote system that can control all the parameters and functions ...

usually, as in my case, the solar plant is located in a remote building housing, and sometimes can take months without the user having to physically go there at all, if it have a good system of communications, remote control and data acquisition and statistics of the plant ...

I fortunately can use this solar monitor:

that jepefe and me develop together, with which I defend well, but these systems are not very suitable for basic users ...

Hello Mates,
Any experience with the online solar monitor you mentioned? I need something stable and cheap for the remote control function mostly. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi

I have a SMA Sunny Island as the outback power only had FXR available at time the system was put in, the SMA interface is no way as good as the opticsre in the sunnyportal or the inverters interface I only hope SMA will improve it to be more like opticsre as sunnyportal only give you battery % and power output on Sunny Island and Sunny Boy and generator but you canÔÇÖt start the generator or see if the you have solar to burn eg HZ are over 50hz you only if you in the local web interface.
Altogether not great software.
