Remote charge disable

Postby andyf on Thu Oct 12, 2017 5:01 am

Is there a way of controlling the FM80 to stop charging batteries? I have a system where I use LIFePo4 with symmetry monitoring and balancing. I can get a signal from the BMS when one or more cell goes overvoltage and would like to get the FM80 to suspend charging at this point. If I can't do this then I'll have to use a MOSFET switch to isolate the FM80 from the battery string which adds complexity to the system.

thanks

Andy,
The only way to make the FM80 stop charging is by disconnecting the batteries. You could use a remotely operated breaker to open when the batteries require it.

OK, thanks. I thought that would be the situation but it was worth asking.

It would be a useful feature for LiFePo4 battery systems with their associated BMS as it is a good way to stop charging when a cell goes overvoltage. Maybe you could consider it in your next products. LiFePo4 will become more common in the next couple of years.

Thanks
