Setting a Generator Max run time using Mate3

Postby Phgnw8 on Fri Oct 13, 2017 1:59 am

Hi,

My stsem is a 7KW Radian inverter + PV + battery with 50KVA generator. I set the AGS Voltage Start function to start/stop the generator for battery charging. So the AGS starts the generator when the voltage falls below my voltage set point. My challenge is the gen runs for too long a time, sometimes 9-10hrs. Most times I have to stop the gen manually as it could run even longer trying to complete the absorb cycle for it to stop on its own. I want the gen to not exceed a run time of 4 hours (to save on fuel costs), regardless of AGS start trigger, and regardless if it doesn't complete the absorb cycle.

How can I achieve this anyone please?

George,
You need to adjust the charger setting on the inverters
Password-Settings-Inverter-Battery charger
Start by adjusting the absorb time, set it to 0.1. You need to test this until you have it correct for your system.

Thanks Sandra, I’ve just done that, will monitor and see how it goes.

Whoa, really? 50kVA? Yeah, fuel savings would be paramount.

Hi Sandra,

Not noticed any effect after setting charger settings as suggested. The Bulk charging takes quite a while. On several occassions it hit the 5hr point and was still bulk charging, I had to manually turn off gen.

I used to have a XantrexXW inverter with an overide max time shut off function for the gen. This function enables user to set the max time the gen can run regadless if it is started manually or automatically. I usually set to 4hrs. Seems Outback needs to include this feature - or let me into how to achieve a 4hr max gen run time??
