Convert GVFX3524 to 48v

Postby SHINE on Sat Jan 02, 2016 11:17 am

THE QUESTION IS: Is it possible to convert a GVFX3524 to operate on 48v like the GVFX3648?
They seem to be identical except input voltages. I hope this can be easily achievable like a jumper or board replacement.

I just upgraded to US AGM L16's to make my 400ah 48v string. If I can convert this 3524 to a 3648 I could utilize my resources to finish off the upgrade from my FW250 to a FW500 system.

Any and all advise appreciated in advance. ](*,)

Hi,

There is no way to convert the GVFX3524 to a 48V inverter. You will need to buy a 48V inverter. On the bright side the OutBack inverters seem to hold their value fairly well in the used market so you can recoup some of your cost by selling the 24V inverter.

Thanks Kirk,

Kinda what I expected. DC board, Main board, HF Transformer. Just not worth it. I'll pick up a used 48v unit, keep the GVFX3524 as a back up in case part of my 48v string fails I can make a 24v string. Then switch gens from the DCX3000 to the EU3000is for charging and AC Backup.

Kirk, I have a ALFAGEN DCX3000. Since it is 36v/48v can I choke it through my MX60 controller to charge my 24V string?

Any suggestions?

I don't recommend it. The Alpha DCX3000 puts out more power than the MX60 can handle. The gen will be fine as an emergency backup for your 48 volt battery bank. Keep in mind that it is only rated for ~100 hrs operation per year (once or twice a month).
