GS8048 in ByPass Mode

Postby cgerke on Thu Mar 14, 2019 7:26 am

My Radian inverter wants to stay in ByPass mode. What parameters affect this Mode. The Absorb timer is set to 3 hours. Should this be shorted? At this moment, I have 8KW of PV making 4KW of power and 1KW of load and the inverter is buying power from the grid. Not sure what to do or what is happening.

Your inverter is set to "Backup" mode. This means it doesn't do anything unless the grid goes down. You need to change the mode to something like Grid-Tied, Mini-Grid, Support, or Grid Zero. Check out pages 11-19 of the operators manual for details http://www.outbackpower.com/downloads/documents/inverter_chargers/radian_8048a_4048a/gs_8048a_4048a_operator.pdf

What is your goal with the system?

Are you allowed to sell power to the utility?

Thanks for the reply but you are looking at the wrong system. Please check Laguna.

We are allowed to sell power. I want to keep the batteries charged and sell all excess pv.

By Laguna do you mean LagunaSolar? There are a couple of different Laguna sites.

Right now it looks like the battery bank temp comp voltage is .4V below the inverter Absorb target. The battery bank has to hit Absorb before the inverter will start to offset/sell. It also looks like the charge controllers are seeing .2V lower battery voltage than the inverter. I suggest calibrating the charge controller voltage and then bumping the Absorb charge target for the charge controllers up to the mid 59V level. When the inverter Absorb target of 58.8V is passed the system should start to offset and or sell power. If you turn on the battery charger on the inverter it might help bump the battery up to the 58.8 range, then once the charge controllers push past 58.8 the inverter should stop charging and start selling.

Right after I just made my post it looks like the system started to sell.
