My RE system: Two separate systems one has 8 x Trojan T105, one has 16 x Trojan T105 otherwise both are FlexPower One 36/48 Flex max 80 15x235 Shott panels

I am planning on making some changes and would like to add separate fuses and a switch to the battery bank. I looked at Blue Sea equipment and was not sure if the switches and circuit breakers were correct ones to use for a solar application. The items I considered are below, can I please get some opinions so I don't make errors. Open to hear about other products you have used.

The links are not connected so I can't see the exact products that you are referring to. I would recommend using OutBack breakers where possible since they are DC rated. Otherwise, do you homework to make sure the equipment is DC rated when used on the DC side. Also make sure that the equipment is rated for the voltage that they are connected to.

Agree, this is a helpful forum. I Just gave my opinion and it can be replaced at any time when a better solution shows up.

Hi csteel,

As has been noted by M E W, the links are broken.

In general, Blue Seas (B S ) products seem to target the Marine market, and as such, are often designed tor 12 VDC systems. One of your links seems to be for a traditional Battery Switch, the ones that are commonly used for switching between battery banks are rated to ONLY 32 VDC.

It is possible that if this is the style you are thinking of, it may well be a bit dangerous to try to use a 32 V max switch in your system for this purpose.

The commonly used B S Busbars with included screws are rated to 48 VDC, do not know if a Flooded battery bank that could see 62-63 V terminal voltage in cold conditions or during EQ would exceed the specs for this bar (if it is the one that you were thinking of. One other issue with bars like this, is that the normal LARGE cables and terminals used for Solar battery banks seem beyond the capabilities of the B S Bars seen on the site you were trying to link to.

You may want to look at the wind-sun store for additional options that are more Solar oriented:

We have most probably already given you some attitude about such a battery configuration, and seems that you are probably trying to do your best to use this config as safely as possible, which is a good thing.

You might want to consider using large DC - rated circuit breakers as Over Current protection as well as switches. These would need to be mounted in a metal enclosure (MidNite Solar has a number of smallish boxes for this). These would need to be mounted outside of any battery box, and almost any Magnetic-Hydraulic CB needs to be mounted with the long side vertical, with the ON position UP.

Perhaps you could mention more about the function that the Blue Seas products were going to solve. Thanks, Vic
