Difference between A vs A-01 Inverters

Post by mikedowdell » Mon Dec 16, 2019 2:04 am

I've convinced a good friend to go Outback for their off grid setup. My system is entirely A-01 but as we shop around for inverters we are seeing a lot of Base model, A suffix, and A-01 suffix. I tried to research the differences but im at a loss. I assume these have to do with firmware upgradeability and grid support profiles. Can anyone offer any clarity?

Hi Mike, OutBack started producing only A-01 model inverters several years ago. The -01 suffix indicates the inverter hardware and firmware was upgraded to comply with new UL 1741 SA rules.

Some resellers still list our inverters without the -01 suffix for simplicity, but there is virtually no inventory left anywhere that does not comply with UL 1741 SA.

Thank you. I suspected but wasn't sure there was a hardware difference as well as software. There are many older open box inverters available online which show all three variations on the unit itself. The base model from what I understand is quite old and not user firmware update able, the A and A-01 are user update able and use the same firmware? Finally, it looks like its best to go with the Mate3s as its backward compatible for all of them.

Correct on all counts! We no longer make the MATE3 either, so MATE3S is recommended, yes.
