Re: second mate?

Personally, I happen to have more than one MATE, so I can keep one on my wall in my office and one out in the garage next to the system, where a simple connection swap will give me access out there. Doesn't the mate store some of the settings in itself? Maybe it's not a problem for you, but is it r...

270 watts and fx inverting accuracy.

I am loving that my flexnet dc and outback system is now running like a finely tuned machine. But since day one I noticed a inconsistency in the "batt now: out" and the fx "inverting" stats. Known facts: A) I understand the batt out includes all DC loads and the fx is just showing how much power is ...

Re: Is there an Overall programming guide?

Does %SOC = (Battery Capacity - Net AH)/Battery Capacity ? Does Net AH = Charge Factor * AH in - AH out Those both sound right. Yup. Does Net AH stop counting once it gets back to zero or when Charge Parameters are met? Or, does Net AH have to count to zero as one of the Charge Parameters? What do ...

The shunt totals has always seamed pointless to me, unless the history is kept, apart from the obvious being for monitoring software. The pointless being because I never know the time period for whatÔÇÖs displayed. The reset appears to be sometimes midnight/overnight and other times charge paramete...

Re: MATE 3 now shipping

Changes I'd make -- 1). Smaller case. 2). Ability to route Ethernet and Hub connections from the bottom. 3). Smaller buttons relative to display size. As a trained industrial designer and a 14-year veteran UI designer I can honestly say my list of changes is a LOT longer. First off I find their inv...

Return Amps and Charge Termination

Just a couple questions about two aspects of the FNDC: 1) Is there any additional information on how the return amps setting works? Specifically, if i'm charging with solar (MX60) does the FNDC make the distinction that 16 amps is returning to the batteries because they are mostly charged (like when...

Re: Verify my numbers for charging Trojans?

The say Bulk charging (@25C) at 10-13% of C20 to absorption voltage of 2.35V (28.2V), then reducing to 1-3% up to 2.45-2.77V (29.4-32.4). That implies a float voltage way above the absorption voltage... :???: Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but those Trojan Charging Profile charts are showing ...

Re: Verify my numbers for charging Trojans?

You didn't mention whether your primary charge source is grid, or a generator, or other. You don't mention FM charge controllers, so I'm betting that you don't have solar. Ideal setpoints vary based on whether you're charging from grid (nearly always available, can charge for long periods of time, ...

Re: Verify my numbers for charging Trojans?

I would have to know the depth of discharge you are planning to do on a regular basis. What is your number! So far the FNDC is telling me i'm using about 6.5KWh a day on average right now. Often less (yesterday I was below 4KWh). So it looks like we're using no more than 130Ah daily so that's about...

Verify my numbers for charging Trojans?

(sorry for the cross-post for the FNDC forum readers) I've set up my FX and FNDC with the following numbers, i was looking for a sanity check. I have Trojan L16RE-B 6V batteries (24 in 3 strings = 1110Ah at 48v). They are new, only been using them a few weeks. ADV/FX/CHARGER charger limit = 20 aac a...

Re: Verify my numbers for Trojan batteries?

I guess I should have posted this to off-grid, as more of my question is about the voltage set points and timers. But thanks for the confirmation on the FNDC portion of the settings. Question: does using the FNDC charge termination basically cancel the charge after absorption? If it stops after it g...

Verify my numbers for Trojan batteries?

I've set up my FNDC and FX with the following numbers, i was looking for a sanity check. Specifically the interaction between the FNDC settings and the FX settings are a bit obtuse. I have Trojan L16RE-B 6V batteries (24 in 3 strings = 1110Ah at 48v). They are new, only been using them a few weeks. ...

Re: New Installation of FN-DC

By the way, it looks like you have 24 2-volt batteries in series which gives you a 48-volt system. But the current capacity of the batteries is not additive when they are in series, so your battery bank is actually the same as a single battery, or 648 Ah in your case. If you wired your batteries all...

Manual Start with AGS stop?

The FlexNet DC and Mate manuals aren't entirely clear on one point (or many really.) I would like to haveI the AGS set up to stop the generator at 90% SOC but manually start the generator. It seems like to start it manually i would have to choose "MAN-ON" but then once it's running, if i switch it b...

Re: A Poll:What's your average Kilo-Watt usage?

I guess everyone else was staying what usage they are seeing at various instants throughout the day. But tallgirl has the right idea, you need the full day measurement in kWh or Wh and you can divide by 24 h if you want to know what the average instantaneous measurement could be. Although since usag...

Re: Flickering fluorescents and dead refrigerator

Tim, The C in C/20 is the battery capacity in amphours. You'll also occasionally see C with a 6, 20 or 100 subscript (sorry - can't display that on the forum without inserting graphics), that's the battery capacity at the 6 hour, 20 hour or 100 hour rate, respectively. C with no subscript is usuall...

New battery bank mystifying me

So I recently replaced an old and abused battery bank after moving into my new off-grid home. The new bank is 3 strings of 8 Trojan l16s each. The end result is a 1110 aH 48v bank. So here's the mystery: every time I run the generator to charge it all the way up it seems like it never gets as high a...

Re: Flickering fluorescents and dead refrigerator

I'd like to state for the record that i'm very confused as to when manuals and documentation are referring to DC amps versus the AC amps. When the outback is charging from AC input, it is inverting it to DC right? If the genny is inputting 120v 30a power and the batteries are reading 50v then there ...

Re: Flickering fluorescents and dead refrigerator

I was looking at those very manuals and diagrams last night. There's no legend that tells me what C/20 is. And There was no C/1 through C/19 so I was left even more confused. Is C/20 the total Ah of the bank? Meaning it should be charging with 111 to 144 DC amps? So I'd need around 50 AC amps coming...

Re: Flickering fluorescents and dead refrigerator

So my new (yet undelivered or installed) 8.5RES Kohler genset supplies 35 amps. My current one must only be able to do a little over 20 amps. Forgive my ignorance, but when you say the the FX is charging at 40 amps, that's the DC amperage at the battery voltage? It's taking me more time to get up to...

Re: Flickering fluorescents and dead refrigerator

What size is the generator? In charger mode the FX inverter loads the generator with some pretty dirty looking current. Some generators have trouble with it; particularly small ones. Often the problem can be controlled by reducing the MAIN/SETUP/FX/INPUT setting. Try starting at 1/3 the generator r...

Flickering fluorescents and dead refrigerator

So thanksgiving week, I had some problems... Some contractors were overloading my system as it went past dusk and I went to run the generator. It ran for a bit then the breaker popped. I reduced the load by turning off some things, mainly lights and an air compressor, and then started the genny back...
