Re: Question about FLEXnet data logging

Oh, yes. I forgot the 1 and 2 where just the surface mount versus the flush mount. But those earlier models had RS-232 ports. Known as "com" or "serial" ports. It's on the bottom to the left of the RJ45 connector. And yes, you can keep your Mate and just swap them for when you need to check settings...

Re: Question about FLEXnet data logging

Can't have a MATE (2 or 3) and an AXS Port on the same system. It's one control device per system. The mate2 you have had a serial connection. You can use a Windows PC with WattPlot to record the data for later analysis. You have to leave a computer on all the time though. The Mate3 just gives you m...

Re: Question about FLEXnet data logging

Hi Bill, The FlexNET DC will show the three values separately, and also add them together for a net value for your battery bank. Based on your description you'd have one shunt that would usually be negative (inverter) but sometimes flip to charging mode. Your solar would always be positive and your ...

Re: Charge AAC higher than Buy/Gen AAC?

Using 3.11 and again I notice the following: IMG_0106.jpg The gen number is charge MINUS the load. Coincidence? I watch it and as the numbers go up and down, it is consistently maintaining this relationship. A few minutes later... IMG_0109.jpg Now it's correct! Same inverter, same situation, but the...

Re: MATE serial out. Negative numbers for FN-DC shunts

Bit 7 of the extra identifier. 0 means a positive value, 1 means negative.

I'm curious, which arduino are you using? I'm using a Raspberry Pi, and I was thinking about using a NetDunio with a logging shield or something similar.

Re: SOC calculations are just junk.

Of course they can drift, of course they are an estimate. But does it make any sense that it I would use 50 Ah of energy and it just leaves the SOC at 100%? under what circumstances does that make any sense at all? It seems like the CCs coming back online kicks it out of this mode (the battery Ah co...

SOC calculations are just junk.

Turned the generator on last night. Ran it until about 1:30am, as you can see in the graphs. Battery "Amp Hour" counter went well into the positives... Which I've seen and don't necessarily disagree with conceptually. Except the Ah didn't reset to zero when I turned the generator off, and the SOC st...

Re: FnDC Shunt enabled flags

You should throw WattPlot on your system and log the behavior more accurately. WattPlot stores the per-second status lines far more efficiently than the MATE3, so you could easily capture the bug happening without overwhelming your disk drive. It requires Windows. I don't have any computers running...

Re: FnDC Shunt enabled flags

Of course, I always thought it was backwards. Zero meaning "on" never made sense to me. So maybe they can just fix the UDP stream to match and call it a fix! Of course, I really think think they should include some sort of version field in the stream. Either the firmware version or a protocol versio...

Re: FnDC Shunt enabled flags

Ah sorry, I didn't read your earlier post very carefully, my fault. That's totally crazy. I feel like they either don't have a good software engineer, or they have one (some?) and they are completely overwhelmed. I actually don't mind being their QA a bit, if i felt like they actually were listening...

Re: FnDC Shunt enabled flags

I'm confused... my python parsing script for the datastream follows the earlier documentation, because as you state the USB Card documentation is incorrect. # Shunt status self.status_formatted[24] = 'On' self.status_formatted[25] = 'On' self.status_formatted[26] = 'On' if datastream[9][0] == 1: sel...

Re: Is the Mate3 running low on memory?

True, I share your goals and desire to get stability and consistency. Can't reboot remotely? It's hard to even reboot locally! Why no restart command in the menus? Or a secret multi-button crtl-alt-del method? I have mine mounted to the wall in my house, I used to have to unscrew it from the wall to...

Re: Is the Mate3 running low on memory?

It's completely conjecture, but I doubt the OS on the Mate3 is high-level enough and complex enough to be able to swap memory to disk. Also, aren't SD cards are a poor choice for memory swapping, as they technically wear out with frequent use? I'd would think that if the mate3 is running out of RAM,...

Re: Mate3 Firmware 003.009.000 clock runs amuck

It's been quite a while since Outback has released a thoroughly good, stable, firmware. My clock problems continued through all the 3.x releases, despite now having the ability to have the clock automatically set. 003.009.000 seems the best of the bunch for me personally, but I still need to disconn...

Most egregious jump yet.

Two days ago I had a problem that caused my system to decline into shutdown. The SOC and voltage dropped to the point where the system shut off to preserve the batteries. This was my own fault... but what happened the next day was not. I charged on solar for the first part of the day, while I hooked...

Re: Firmware 003.007.000 bricked my mate3.

Well, it turned out it didn't go so smoothly. It wasn't connecting to OpticsRE at all, and my datastream logging wasn't working, and viewing the mate3 webpage showed a lot of crazy incorrect numbers (like SoC of 223%! and voltages of 258, etc.) Anyway, turns out the new "Firmware" menu helpfully sho...

Replacement MATE3 arrived today with 002.019.000. I manually set up my system with the proper values etc, then upgraded to 003.007.000 without a hitch.

Thanks Outback Support!

Thanks Kurt for letting me know the "hardware" shortcut to try and update firmware. Unfortunately it didn't work, the device is toast. But fortunately. Outback support just asked a couple of questions then immediately FedEx shipped a new device to me! I was surprised how easy it was since I'm no lon...

Re: very happy(again) with the Outback policy!

Yes, the 003.x release are now available for download for all customers, not just ones with newer serial numbers. You of course still can't use OpticsRE without setting up an account which likely still requires a more recent purchase or serial numbered device. This addresses the "two branches" of de...

Firmware 003.007.000 bricked my mate3.

Just a warning to those out there... I popped in the firmware update from today, hoping it would fix issues that have been keeping me on an older version (002.013.000) and after the update the device rebooted. Then rebooted. Then rebooted. I unplugged it and let it sit a bit, then plugged it again. ...

Re: Converting from 48V to 24V

I have no experience with those brands, but 1 year is clearly way too short a lifespan. Are they AGM? Quick googling seems to indicate these mfgrs make a lot of sealed and/or AGM batteries. You may have better luck with Flooded Lead Acid as they are more forgiving and not so touchy about high voltag...

Re: Converting from 48V to 24V

On average you're really paying for the Ah or kWh of the battery bank, not the number of batteries. I keep tabs on about 20 different configurations of batteries that would suit my personal needs, and when sorted by lowest cost per kWh, the cheapest 7 options in my spreadsheet are 24 batteries. The ...
