Re: My charging settings

My hydrometer is not the greatest. It only cost 25$ but the readings are all in the 1.270s at a temp of 68 deg. Do not worry too much about the "numbers" it is what they are doing is important, eg not rising any more, bat is full, If you know what the particular cells "normally" reache when full an...

Re: My charging settings

Your settings look a "reasonable" starting place (Apart from auto EQ, I prefer that done manually) Have you got an Hydrometer and are reading SGs ? They are the gold standard for setting up your bank properly,

Re: Aging batteries trying to charge with ac input line

You have treated your present batteries pretty badly, Low on water (the biggest NO in the battery book) No EQ and by leaving system at defaults,,,, Chronic undercharging (defaults are way to safe, "out the box" especially only 1 hour of absorb time) Your SGs will be all over the place and battery ef...

Sounds like possible programming errors on the stacking, Some extracts below from the manual that you may want to confirm, Particularly important is that the master inv is in port 1 of hub, source, https://www.energymatters.com.au/images/outback/FX-VFX-Manual.pdf 1-2 PH MASTER: 1-2 PH MASTER is used...

Re: GEN STAT over LAN

You extra inverter "should" give you enough to start it but for future reference have a look at VFDs, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable-frequency_drive That would give you soft start and variable speed up to 110%, They can save a significant amount of power just by backing the pump down a littl...

Re: GEN STAT over LAN

How often does your gen run anyway ? (without additional pump run time) If reasonably often you could wire the pump straight to gen output, so when gen runs pump does if required (controlled by float switches) May also be a good idea with your present setup as a fail-safe,

Re: AGS not working - help with AGS config troubleshooting

I have the 2 minute voltage set at 44.4v
Thats very low,
At 45.2v, that only lets the batteries drop to 81% SOC.
I suggest you confirm that with a hydrometer, As above thats a very low battery voltage for 81% SOC,

Guessing they are AGMs, is there a remote battery temperature sensor installed on what will be the hottest part of the bank ( probably should be close to those who went bang) ?

Sorry my bad, Did not explain that well enough, No I am not saying abandon earthing, I am talking about bonding Neutral to Earth that is normally done on "our systems" (pme) It sounds like your 2 small gens are bonded internally and the big one not, To test if that is correct, on disconnected gens, ...

I have done a few from 3 ph to 1ph, & use double delta for that,,,,, yours all seems good, (yes remove top link as questioned on diagram) One thing to look at is where the voltage regulator is connected to alternator, This side of pond ( I guess yours may be the same ?) The voltage regulators are 23...

A couple of questions, Is it more when gen is running hard charge, eg first few hours ? or is it on changeover ? and is changeover smooth ? Do you have diagrams for previous and new way generator alt is wired ? Scope, Best to borrow one if poss, But failing that if you do an ebay for "USB oscillosco...

What do you mean by "MOVs that are next to the 12V aux in the wiring compartment are red or blue. Re: FM80 on Two Battery Banks Configuration

Have you altered the FM from defaults at all ? Refer to battery manual for settings, But if not, By default you have a 1 hr absorb time which is WAY to short and Charge voltage also is low, around 4 to 5 hrs would be a better starting place then calibrate with a hydrometer, Voltage, again, Manual, Tim

I have seen melted hydrocaps on 5000s due to wrong temp sensor connections, On the brighter side they lasted for years after with little to no apparent damage  But note, On the 5000s the sensor has to go inside the red outer casing on the cell itself, About half way down which you think will b...

You also may want to put your absorb time right up , Float charging with a generator is a total waste of fuel, So if you do "forget" to turn it off, at least it is doing some good

Re: Three phase advantages? Superior long term, anyone do th

My 50c worth 1, Yes they are plentyful, But on 3 phase you are limited to inverter sizing the other end and would have to be careful with phase balance,( generator voltage regulators only monitor 1 ph) You can take pretty much any larger generator and convert it to single phase relatively easily whi...

I'm using Trojan flooded batteries.
The best battery monitor you can get would be a hydrometer  Forget about all the electronic ones, They are ALL only as good as they are setup and will drift over time which will have you constantly re-calibrating it with a hydrometer anyway, #-o

do you have schematic for the generator alternator ? depending on its type (needs to be 12 wire) It could be reconfigured for 1ph, you would get about 58% of 3ph rating,

Have a look a your AC2 gen input delay and limits, It sounds like they are at defaults which is way to long (50 or 60cycles iirc) Take that down to a starting place of 5c, see how your gen copes with that,,no frequent disconnect, reconnect, Smooth change over, if you can,, then nudge it down to 0, W...

Yes you are correct, Maybe help with the early part of bulk but you want 14.4 minimum realistically,

max coming in normally 35 volts, today, 26 to 30 volts coming in,,They are maxing the batteries out at 24, and not much more. (my setpoint is 28). Another thought, The FMs default setting are very safe (too safe, 1 hr absorb is way too short) Refer to manufactures specs but 4 hrs is a more reasonable time, Absorb voltage, again, by the book,

Re: Solar system on a 40 ft Catamaran

As above but to add, The FMs remote battery temp sensor is very important, It should be placed wherever the warmest part of bank will be,
Also a suggestion, Depending on how much you motor, It may be worth while putting a smart voltage regulator on engine alternator,
