The manual says don't exceed 150VDC input or you'll damage the FM60, but doesn't address operating with array wattage exceeding OB's recommended 1600 watts. My guess would be the FM60 would limit output current to 60A, with possibly no ill effects, but someone from Outback would have to answer that....

The voltage during the bulk stage is limited by the absorb voltage settings. In fact, they are essentially the same number. I'm not familiar with your inverter but on mine there is only one setting and that is for the absorb stage. I believe bulk refers to the stage where the charger is raising batt...

mr green - you got it. The 2 important factors in sizing your PV array to match your charge controller capacity are total power in watts and battery bank voltage. Array voltage is irrelevant except for staying under your charge controller limit.

The simple answer is for a 12 volt battery system, the maximum PV input using a 60 amp charge controller like your FM60 is 12V x 60A = 720 watts. Bear - I think you have the float and absorb voltage settings right, based on their charging profile. The battery pdf spec you provided shows that for a 50% depth of discharge it will take around 10 hours to reach 100% charge (that is if I'm interpreting it correctly). Looking at your inverter battery charging setpoints I see you have float voltage set for 22 volts. That's WAY too low for a 24 volt bank, should be more like 26.5-27 volts. Surprised no one else mentioned this (unless I missed it). That setting would probably confuse your charger, with a refloat set...
