Re: MATE3s 1.4.0 firmware causing calibration issue

Thanks--back in December I mentioned to someone on the web team that your SSL certificate is misconfigured, which means there's no encryption happening when people log in with private credentials, like on this forum. Easy fix (I do web development), but three months later the issue remains. "Nimble"...

Re: Proper temp compensation?

I have the identical battery bank and a Radian also. And like your setup, mine's in an unheated space. On mine there's a Remote Temperature Sensor that's designed to be placed on the case of one battery in the middle of the bank. The other end connects to the Radian. The idea is to monitor electroly...

Re: Flexmax 80 Buzzing Sound

Not exactly sure I would describe it as an "error code" sound, but one of my FM80s sometimes buzzes-seems to be more apt to happen when the array is really cranking and there's a lot of current going through the controller. Interesting what Kurt said about the input/output voltage. I'll have to chec...

water on battery tops

I've had these Rolls S-550 batteries for a little over a year now, just wanted to compare notes with others on some observations. Typically when I check on them (monthly), I notice a little water on the tops of the batteries. Not a lot, but enough to wipe up with a dry rag. At first I thought it mig...

Re: Temperature compensation too aggressive?

does this really mean that even completed absorb and float, I can't get my batteries to 100%, and rather begin the discharge at 75%? If I'm understanding you correctly, no, I wouldn't interpret it that way. Check your s.g. to confirm, but after a full day with a healthy absorption and float at the ...

Re: MATE3s 1.4.0 firmware causing calibration issue

So the inverter isn't actually using those wild calibration numbers--they're just getting reported wrong on Optics? I was wondering about that because I've only see in in Optics, when I check the MATE3s directly everything seems normal. So I guess I don't need to worry about causing any damage to my...

OK, thanks. I checked and fixed it early this morning, then just checked again now and it's reverted back.

Where is it getting those values anyway?

Wondering if I should roll back the update.

Re: Best order/sequence for powering up system?

I would say the key thing is the battery banks switched on first; the inverters, controllers, and MATE next, and once everything is confirmed working/correctly calibrated/adjusted, the power sources last. I notice your profile has quite a lot of potential wattage going into your FM80. Ever have issu...

MATE3s 1.4.0 firmware causing calibration issue

A few days ago I upgraded my MATE3s firmware to the latest version, 1.4.0. Twice now I've had to manually fix the Grid Input Voltage Calibrate setting and the AC Output Calibrate setting for the Radian inverter. I would never have even been ware of this except when I tried to change my grid-sell vol...

Re: MATE3s staying offline after 1.4.0 firmware update

This morning I unplugged the CAT5 cable from MATE and repeated the firmware update. Seems to have worked. Oddly, during the process the display read "cannot read SD card" toward the end, and the MATE did not reboot as it usually does, but I just logged into Optics and everything seems to be in order...

MATE3s staying offline after 1.4.0 firmware update

Just updated my MATE3s firmware to the latest version, 001.004.000. Upgrade seemed to go fine and it's working, but for some reason it won't connect to OpticsRE (ORE indicates "offline"). I tried unplugging the ethernet cable and then unplugging the hub cable, then plugging the hub cable back in, le...

Re: Temperature compensation too aggressive?

Rolls has a little "bulletin" about that: http://support.rollsbattery.com/support ... ic-gravity

I typically check mine at the end of the day after the PV goes quiet. But I suppose you could do it after absorption finishes.

Re: Temperature compensation too aggressive?

I've been wrestling with this issue, too, as my batteries are in an unheated space also. I corresponded with a Rolls Surette tech. but didn't necessarily get a fully satisfactory answer. The Rolls manual has a table with voltage parameters at different temps. ( http://rollsbattery.com/public/docs/us...

Re: daily absorption time for backup batteries?

I suppose it's possible the Rolls tech. is giving me bad advice. I wonder if the "drift" I was seeing in s.g.'s was because I have my float voltage too low. I'm using their specs. (54v), but perhaps I should try raising that a little bit. The Rolls guy actually said I should do a three hour absorpti...

Re: daily absorption time for backup batteries?

None, If it is a pure grid tie system with occasional emergency back up it should stay in float 24,7 untill it has been "used" then bulk & absorb back to full That was my intuitive sense initially, but Rolls is telling me different. Although mine is not on float overnight, just during the day when ...

Re: daily absorption time for backup batteries?

Thanks for sharing your experience. Using the formula provided by my battery manufacturer, Rolls, my absorb time would be 4.2 hours. But isn't that after a drawdown? My understanding is absorption is the part of the recharge cycle where you need to raise the voltage to "push in" the last 20% of amp ...

daily absorption time for backup batteries?

In situations where the battery bank is strictly for the occasional power outage, and therefore stays full most of the time, what's the proper amount of absorption each day? While checking s.g. last month I noticed some drift downward on a few of the cells (range was from 1.285 -1.255 at 0 degrees C...

Re: equalize with 2 FlexMax 80s?

Rereading the Radian manual I saw that the system is designed to allow selling during equalization.

From page 43:

"The Radian inverter can perform Offset when equalizing. Equalize voltage is also the reference voltage for Offset during equalization."

Re: understanding role of the battery charger settings

It may be a difference with the MATE3s, too--I notice you have the MATE3. I just went to adjust my FNDC parameters to allow for a longer absorb time in the morning before selling (my s.g. readings started to drift a bit, Rolls tech. thought reason might be because I wasn't absorbing for long enough ...
