Re: Planned OPTICS RE Maintenance - Wednesday February 14, 0

One other odd color shift I noted: when comparing multiple charge controller outputs in the bar graph format, the colors representing the two different ports (or controllers) have very close color values, almost indistinguishable at a distance. Would definitely recommend changing one of them.

Re: Optics Widget?

The idea here is more that you're a business that's invested in solar power, or maybe a municipality or an educational institution, and you want to highlight the benefits of your investment to the public. Builds public awareness/appreciation for renewable energy and emphasizes your commitment.

Terrific, while not mission-critical I bet this would be a popular feature. Let me know what I can do to help.

maximum sell wattage

What's the maximum amount of power you can sell back to the grid? Under my interconnection agreement with Central Maine Power, we're restricted to 10kW. Just curious if this is pretty standard across the country for residential customers or whether it varies by region. We get a flat retail rate cred...

Optics Widget?

If this has already been addressed, just give me a link--couldn't find anything. I'm wondering if there's a widget of some kind that would allow you to display a simplified set of Optics data on a web page--for example, if I own a business and I want to show visitors on my website how much electrici...

Re: solar panel output

I use the backup mode at night instead of grid-tie so the inverter wakes up and starts supplying power if the grid goes out at night. It wasn't doing that when in grid-tie mode at night. In the MATE look for "Flextime" settings where you can schedule different modes of operation for the inverter acc...

Re: solar panel output

Not sure you have the FDNC battery monitor, but with my system it switches from backup to grid-tie mode at dawn, and all current from the array goes into recharging the batteries until the parameters are met, then selling begins. Since my battery bank is strictly for grid outages, it generally start...

Re: solar panel output

If George is selling power to the grid during the day, wouldn't he want the inverter in grid-tie mode rather than Gridzero during those hours? Assuming he gets some sort of net metering credit.

I would think backup mode at night and grid-tie during the day would be the way to go.

Re: Planned OPTICS RE Maintenance - Wednesday February 14, 0

Appreciate the info. Glad to see you're tweaking and improving things. Mine just came back up. Quick bit of feedback--the new color for "To Grid" is a little hard to distinguish from the "Solar" color--at least on my iMac display right now (I'm on Windows Firefox though, using Bootcamp). Keep in min...

Re: Doesn't Appear Grid Tie Sell Voltage is Temp Compensated

I have a system very similar to yours, only a slightly larger capacity battery bank, and my unheated space gets a lot colder in the winter (it was -20 C over the holidays). You're right, if you want to float charge your batteries at the correct voltage when selling to the grid during the day, you do...

Re: we're online and making watts! (but a few small issues)

Very good, in the future I'll send an email to the WattPlot tech support. If you think the installation issue I keep having has been addressed in the latest version, I'll give it another crack. OpticsRE seems to be working well for me, and I can pull up the MATE3s in my browser directly through the ...

I assumed you were the developer, that's why I posted the log file, just trying to help you identify a possible bug. Since you joined the thread and responded with some details about WattPlot, I figured you were OK discussing it here. Not trying to badmouth your product, like I said I'll give it ano...

Re: test of backup failed--not sure why?

Checked search function and it's off. Tried a test tonight while inverter was in "backup" mode. Opened the AC input breaker in the Load Center and the inverter immediately kicked on. Repeated again from inside the house, opening the breaker on my main service panel that connects the inverter, and al...

Re: test of backup failed--not sure why?

Have the system auto switching to "backup" mode after sundown and returning to "grid tie" just before sunrise. Had a brief power outage this morning, after the system had switched to grid tie (but before the sun was actually up so charge controllers were asleep), no backup power. Is there some setti...

cc dropping out of GT mode

I have a pair of FM80s that normally work together in GT mode. Late afternoon yesterday one of them stopped delivering any current and read "charged" while the other kept going. I manually kicked it into bulk mode and it started producing again and soon was back in GT. What would cause a cc to just ...

Interesting. Mine doesn't seem to do that. I'll look at the documentation again but I don't remember seeing anything about the grid-tie mode supplying backup power.

Re: test of backup failed--not sure why?

In grid-tie mode, if the grid goes out and there's no PV current, the inverter will not pull from the batteries to supply the backup loads panel. I haven't actually tested this by cutting grid power during the day while PV was flowing but that's my understanding from how it works. In backup mode I d...

Re: test of backup failed--not sure why?

Duh, I didn't go into the inverter settings and change the "input mode" in "grid AC input mode and limits" to "backup." You're right, the one I switched just controls the MATE display.

I'll repeat the test tonight--sun is out and I'm cranking out the watts right now.

test of backup failed--not sure why?

So back in December I installed a FPS8048A system, grid-tied with a 428AH bank of FLA batteries. Working fine in grid-tie mode. Just tried a little test with backup mode last night and was disappointed, would welcome advice on troubleshooting steps. I needed to kill the power to my main service pane...

Re: Mate3 port key

Oh, and as far as those error messages, it looks like I had the inverter's AC input current too low so I raised it to 50A to match the breaker. The error messages are gone. My bad.
