Re: Lead-calcium battery charging - advice?

The manufacturer would be the best source for charging settings. Batteries meant for float service have a fairly special makeup, distinct from batteries meant for cyclic use. Also, batteries meant for motor starting applications are substantially different from batteries meant for deep cycle use. C...

Lead-calcium battery charging - advice?

I finally gave up on burned out lead-antimony high maintenance batteries after my fourth set now, and picked up some lead-calcium types. I am running a 48v system using a PowerFlex II system. I think I have most of my float, bulk and equalise settings figured out. Geee these things don't boil or hea...

Re: More water use lead-acid batteries under more load??

Heat equals evaporation. When you force current through your batteries they heat up. If the ambient is hot, they evaporate more also.

Re: New 003.015.005 firmware for MATE3 - Modbus

Thanks for the response. I hear you. I wasn't doing anything with Modbus until v3.15.5 so I haven't the same experience as you. Although, maybe? you were using a technique that shouldn't have been done, I sympathise with your complaint(s). In OBs defence they were probably only coreccting a deficien...

Re: New 003.015.005 firmware for MATE3 - Modbus

I wrote a Modbus reader to ISY variable bridge software in python3 on a RPi3, completely by the SunSpec docs. The last block found (terminator) has a zero length parameter. I have never had an error running out of formatted blocks from my Mate3 v3.015.05. I did put a limit of 25 blocks in my code bu...

Re: Over efficient panels?

It was a break in the cloud and I disconnected the panels very quickly but the system has yet to be subjected to the full path of the sun and a clear sky. Thanks. Just wait until you get one of those cold crisp fall or spring mornings. The colder the better. When we get those -25C winter days in Ca...

Re: Mate3 Modbus

OK here is a starter for anybody wanting to use pymodbus to extract information from their Mate3 via the TCP/AXS port. The data streaming enable, port or IP address is not related and makes no difference to the ModBus port. You can disable it. This code follows the SunSpec protocol (no absolute regi...

Re: Mate3 Modbus

Classic that as per the usual I find 90% of the python stuff online doesn't work. However after trying many different approaches from many dfferent online sources I have combined much past knowledge and found this actually worked with the pymodbus3 package re-written for python3. Since the install a...

Re: Mate3 Modbus

Hey, I got everything figured out for a direct connection to a laptop. I will try a remote connection soon. I am having a problem with the ethernet connection, though. I can send a couple of commands. Then SunSpec disconnects and the ethernet reboots on the mate. I have to wait a minute for it to r...

Re: Mate3 Modbus

The IP address of the client machine isn't important. Whatever IP address the request comes from is what the Mate3 responds back to. I have my Mate3 IP address set by my router DHCP reservation table, and DHCP enabled in my Mate3, so it is always at the same address and at the factory default. 192.1...

Re: Mate3 Modbus

Keep me posted if you figure anything out! I am thinking that I'll need to use pysunspec instead of pymodbus. But I'm still trying to figure out how it works. Are you running python3 or python2.7? pySunSpec looks like it was never upgraded to run on python3, in case you were attempting to. I have o...

Re: Newbie with FM80 programming questions

To use the "end amps" IIRC you will need the FNDC with shunts, or some other method to determine the current going into the battery. If your fridge, and other equipment loads, are being drawn while the charging cycle is happening, those currents are not going into the batteries. What matters is only...

Re: Mate 3 Cannot Recover from Ethernet Outage

You must be using pull technology to interrogate the Mate3 and herefore a different socket/connection/protocol. Meanwhile the Mate3 must be using push technology to get the information to OpticsRE. I don't remember any body instructing me to open a port forwarding entry or other firewall hole in my ...

Re: Mate 3 Cannot Recover from Ethernet Outage

Does WattPlot have a lockout that prevents it from trying to change settings with version changes? I guess that would be up to the Mate3 firmware to protect against that. Will WattPlot support Fronius or other systems when I dump this one? Best to ping Andrew on this stuff, I'm not a rep for WattPl...

Here we are 1 year and 7 months from when I first made this post. This issue is still a primary issue with the Mate 3. Just so Outback can't deny they have ever heard of the problem before. Fix your damn Ethenet connection healing firmware! WattPlot. If you need remote access, AXS and WattPlot. I have recently noticed that Outback has discontinued offerring v003.015.003 as a firmware upgrade. The latest version offered is v3.15.001. Does this mean Outback has revoked the latest release in a sneaky fashion without announcing a mistake/bug was found, or was there an announcement made to warn...
