Re: Ordered a Skybox

My Skybox arrived yesterday. I got the mounting plate situated and needed to adjust my lower wireway to accommodate the location of the knockouts on the bottom of the Skybox. Tomorrow more wiring and assembly of my pack. I also hope to mount the main unit if my friend is available to help tomorrow. ...

Re: Ordered a Skybox

I have some Leaf batteries from another project. After I get a better sense for my loads, I can increase capacity for about $200 kWhr. My first goal is to get through the peak rate period not using the grid.

My unit is being shipped in 10 days from Outback. As far as I know there are no units in inventory at wholesalers yet. Your mileage may vary.

Re: String Sizing tool for Skybox

The more I think about this. I don't need the tool for the Skybox. It is easy to figure out the minimum and maximum number of panels since I would probably wire them in series ( 250 to 400v). I guess that is another benefit of the large voltage range of the Skybox. One doesn't have to think in terms...

Re: Ordered a Skybox

Will do. My panel upgrade to 200 Amps is being worked on this week. The critical loads subpanel is up and fed through a gutter so looping through the Skybox will be easy. My 14kWhrs of batteries are ready to go so I am anxiously awaiting confirmation of a ship date.

Re: String Sizing tool for Skybox

Thanks for the speedy response. As I reflect on my priorities I would prefer AC coupling before the sting sizing utility. No worries, I have the batteries and existing solar panels with a string inverter and will need some time to figure out how much solar capacity I will want to add once I get the ...

Ordered a Skybox

I just ordered a Skybox from Northern Arizona Wind and Sun. As soon as they confirm a delivery date, I am going to cancel my order for a Tesla PowerWall. Several years ago I had installed a Radian and used it for load shifting. Over the past 3 years when I had power outages I was the only one in my ...

String Sizing tool for Skybox

When is the string sizing tool going to be upgraded for the Skybox? I can questimate a string size between 250-500v but using the tool would be optimum.

Re: Tesla Powerwall 2 compatible with Radian?

Does anybody have enough information about the latest version? All I know is one version of Powerwall 2 comes with an inverter so there is the possibility of AC coupling. You would lose all the efficiencies of a high voltage DC bus. I found a used Nissan Leaf pack and reconfigured it to run at 64 v...

Re: Demand Response Programing of GS4048A using ROCB

Thank you. I am using OpticsRE when I get the notice of one of the events and I trigger it manually (electronically via the software). I don't think it will respond to an external signal but will investigate Wattplot for that ability. That is good to know about being good to the relays.

Re: Troubleshooting Net Metering

Do you use OpticsRE or have any logs of your energy production? I don't see a Mate3 in your photos but I thought I would ask. If not, you may wish to look into some independent way to log your production to see if your utility meter is functioning correctly. Just to clarify, when you say your "contr...

Demand Response Programing of GS4048A using ROCB

Re: GVFX programming for load leveling

........ I agree that the Tesla model doesn't work. But a cheaper system (for example an GVFX and a lead acid battery bank, or a HV inverter and a retired EV battery pack) will start to become profitable at a certain spread of power prices under the real time model. An intelligent controller would ...

Yes, lots of improvements in chemistry affecting anode, cathode and electrolyte. I think they all utilize Lithium Ions to move the energy from anode to cathode or vice versa.

I can't comment on Lithium Ion batteries, as they are different, but I have Lithium Iron Phosphate (52V 400AH), and have been charging them with 2 FM80s since late 2012. They do the job perfectly well. With careful adjustment of set points, I've got them running at 98.7% charging efficiency. On the...

Re: GVFX programming for load leveling

We're working on using a GVFX 3648 for utility load leveling - charging during surplus times (midnight to 4am) and discharging to the grid during peak load (6-10pm.) I am assuming we can make a discharge happen by disabling the charger then setting SELL RE VOLTS to (for example) 48 volts, and charg...

You will have a lot more options in terms of weight distribution if you build your own pack. As far as a BMS is concerned for 4cells in series there are a lot of simple options. There are a lot of good Lithium cells out there in various sizes. I had a good purchase experience with Balqon three years...

Re: Build of grid-tie hybrid Radian with lithium battery ban

Until you can sell power to the grid can you use your solar during the day to charge your batteries and run some of the house needs. then you can use your batteries to provide some power during non solar times. I think HBX or Grid Zero modes will do that. The setting is in the Mate3. You can aLso tr...
