Re: AUX ports in the Flexpower One

Since you have a sealed inverter, those models come with an internal fan and external (which uses the aux to power it) as opposed to a vented model only comes with an internal fan thus freeing up the aux terminal. Give/take situation. Radian Inverters were designed with that in mind and come with du...

Re: AUX ports in the Flexpower One

Is it possible to repurpose the AUX ports on the inverter and charge controller by removing the fans, and putting the fans on some sort of thermostatic control? That is interesting. I haven't heard anyone doing such thing but no one can stop you from trying O:) just keep in mind modifying may void ...

Re: FX3048T with Honda EU3000IS as backup

Hi, The internal transfer switch is a mechanical relay so just like any other, it does have a life expectancy. When it transfers from generator to Inverter mode, inside the relay tends to have some arcing which may promote wear and tear. However being " excessive " is depending on the amount of curr...

Hi Steve,

The MATE3s is backwards compatible with legacy OutBack Inverters so no need to replace the control boards.

Re: VFX Firmware Update

Hi Gilles,

VFXR firmware is not compatible with legacy FX inverters. The only way to update the software for legacy units is to send it in or replacing the control board with a newer version.

What are your current FW versions?

Re: choosing breaker for main AC panel connection to Radian

On a load side tap, Per NEC 690.17(A) the breaker must be suitable for backfeeding. Typically if the breaker is labeled with Line and Load they have only been tested in one direction and not recommended for grid-tie systems.

If you tilt the MATE towards you and look down at the LCD screen, you will be able to read the screen. ('ol trick I've learned) In any case you still can't read it:
From the main screen go to: setup (third button) MATE (Fourth button) CTN (Second button) Decrease (Third button)

Re: 80a GFDI tripping w/ 600w array

A GFDI may trip for two reasons. Exceeding the 80A OCP limit or exceeding the .5A ground fault current limit. It doesn't seem as you are over producing or exceeding the 80A OCP limit so you may want to focus on a ground fault. One way to find out when solar generation is at max, measure your DC Volt...

Re: Date on Charge Controller

With three charge controllers I will need three MATE units to get accurate data logging, correct? You only need one MATE plus a HUB to connect them all together in the same 'network'. The MATE3 in addition also data logs in a SD card (Excel), which makes it easier to export the data into a computer.

Hi Andrew, So, is there anyway to set the date on a charge controller? Is there anyway to see the date on a charge controller? There is no way to set the date and time. There are two ways the controller may distinguish from one day to the other. If you have a system display/controller or a MATE then...

Re: Mate 2032 battery, replacement

The battery is just to keep the time. Certain mate functions requires the time for it to work properly such as grid-use or must run. The mate has a non-volatile memory so removing the battery will not affect any saved settings.
It is safe to replace the battery while unplugged.

Re: Basic system help

Hi Davil, You'll probably want to collect a bit more data/info to determine what you'll need in terms of sizing ie. Kw, Surge, Kwh's etc. Looking into OutBack products is a good start since what you are trying to accomplish is exactly what the product does. Homepower Magazine offers good articles on...

Ideally and to be safe you would want to disconnect the System completely AC & DC side
You may not get lightning but high winds can cause ground faults or shorts.

The VFX(R) Inverters cannot stack with the old GVFX.
You will need to upgrade both to VFXR or look for another GVFX

Re: Is the outback Hub required ??

Hi Murphy,

All OutBack devices communicate in a proprietary protocol so they do need an OutBack specific HUB however, the mate3 does have the ability to connect to the internet via your router for remote monitoring and control with our cloud service. www.opticsre.com

Re: Change Outback MATE password?

Hi Jim,

The VFX(R) requires a MATE3 for monitor and control. The MATE3 can be set for different user access levels protected with a unique "Installer" password. To learn how to change this the manual on page 80 shows you how.
The "User" password on all mates cannot be modified from 141.

Re: Remote communications

OpticsRE requires an Internet connection for it to work. There is another way for the Mate3 to connect directly into a PC using a crossover cable. This will display a monitor only GUI built into the MATE3 itself with no control abilities. You can refer to the MATE3 manual page 22 for further reading.

Re: Can an older VFX3524 with newer inverter?

Hello Chris, The mobile units share a similar firmware as the off-grid which makes them able to stack, however there are two main differences to consider. 1. Mobiles have a 30A pass through vs. 60A. 2. Mobile units have a built in Neutral to ground switching mechanism. Bottom line is you can stack t...

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.
You will first want to check with the battery manufacture with those particular set points. Absorb, Float, EQ (If it applies) and times. Once you have those, i can give you some direction as to how to set those in your FLEXmax 80.

Re: generator circuit braker trips when recharging batteries

Marco, A breaker will trip every time you exceed its current rating. That said, keep in mind that when you connect your generator to the OutBack Inverter it will do two things with the generator power: 1. Charge your batteries 2. Power your loads. It may be possible you may be drawing too much curre...

Correct. The Grid-tie input mode available in the Radian GS8048 and GS8048A is a grid-interactive functionality. This will work for up to 10 Inverters in parallel. You may also have an additional MATE3 + HUB to monitor and control FM80 charge controllers. Here is a quick video explaining having mult...
