Re: Electric resistance water heater - how to?

Yup, left out of the stay at home package. OpticsRE has (or had) a wx link built in. Don’t know if free or OB paid for it, but it indicates to me the possibility. Of course I shut it off after complaining to David that it was near worthless to me. Not sure its data source but no where chose to what ...

Re: Electric resistance water heater - how to?

To my thinking this integration is available From Davis, but am guessing OB doesn’t see a value there. On the Davis side there seems to be a push for $$ with the latest software. I would willing do the Pro upgrade if that meant connection to my OB stuff. Seems like someone really smart at OB could t...

Re: It ain't easy being green

Totally agree, Jim. I figure @$400 light bill I only need another 10+years to break even - not accounting for future expenditures. When I first got on OpticsRE it really annoyed me with the the “green” comments. Annoyed me even more that they wasted precious time and resources programming that crap ...

Re: Pondering Skybox system for off-grid application

So who are these folks with extra time????? Being retired, my schedule is still full, just less trips to town. Interesting about the battery bank per Skybox. How would that would? With my Quad Fxs they shared a bank with being able to set inverter priority.most of the time we coasted along on a sing...

Maybe out in left field, but I have been curious if something like a wx station uv sensor could come into play.

Re: Pondering Skybox system for off-grid application

My apologies, BUT, off grid is off grid. There is no “secret” switch that connects to the grid.choosing not to throw that switch doesn’t make your system off grid. This is a case where words matter, they define your system. If your Solar PV fails, your backup is also not the grid, but another off gr...

Re: advice/experience with aquion batteries

Sorry to read that. I replaced my Aquions with SimpliPhi 3.8 lithiums this past Nov. Like yours, mine wouldn’t hols a charge and I was needing to run generator 4-6 hours every night. Just got to be too expensive. BUT, there maybe a glimmer of hope. A local friend also has a bank of Aquions, 18 units...

Re: Pondering Skybox system for off-grid application

No help on your project, but I am curious as to “concept of (near) off-grid operation”?

I have a neighbor who is grid tied. That make him near off-grid, me near grid-tied, or both?

Re: Adding users ro an OpticsRE profile

Interesting. I don’t recall getting the invite either. I have invited 2, both installers and I believe it works. As I’ve previously stated, I found it easier to just create a separate monitor only account and just share that link/password.

I believe it is the valid email of the person to be added. The custom message will be part of the email invite. I fon’t recall a notification as to acceptance, but their name will show up in the list.

I used the kit from Gen line

Easy to install, works great. Think they may have for 3000 as well.

Re: Generator Reccomendations?

Before you commit, might want to compare total cost the 3000 vs 7000. I really liked my 3000 until the inverter board went out, crazy $$ to replace. Even happier with my 7000 with autostart. I was very surprised at the marginal price difference when I bought it.

Re: 1 of 8 RE16-B

Interesting dilemma. I’ve previously stated not having a lot of faith in the warranty process, although I I still read them. NAWS will sell SimpliPhi to a user, wonder what their take is. I haven’t researched Discover so don’t know much about them. SimpliPhi seems a stable, worldwide company of expe...

Re: Honda EU7000is

I would agree 1800 rpm and liquid cool may be a better choice for hard use. If concerned, do check the warranty as our use often negates. I still consider my MEP 803 10kw diesel as my primary. https://apelectric.com/all-generators/air-cooled-generators-6-22kw/kohler-air-cooled-generators/kohler-14re...

Re: Honda EU7000is

I am a big fan of my EU7000. When I did my system upgrade it ran 56 hours straight without a hiccup supplying both my house and cottage. BUT... at 73 yo (wife a bit younger) I don’t see trudging 5g fuel cans as a good long term strategy and one that would die with me. So last year I gave serious tho...
