Re: AC Backfeed Error

Hopefully, someone from Outback is paying attention to this board and can help expedite this. I spoke to a tech on Friday around Noon west coast time. He setup the order for my board and said someone from the office would call to collect my payment information. I replied a couple of times to the sup...

Re: AC Backfeed Error

Try Northern Arizona Wind & Sun for the board their p/n SPARE-215, https://www.solar-electric.com/outback-power-gs-radian-power-supply-board-replacement.html. I have found them to very responsive and get most of my Outback hardware through them. :-) I found that last night and bought it from them. ...

Re: AC Backfeed Error

Master inverter failed today. I called tech support and am really disappointed to learn that Outback really does not want to talk to an owner/self-installer. They put you in a "call back queue" instead of connecting you to someone with a clue right away. The person answering the phone said it "might...

Re: AC Backfeed Error

Might be the mate that is creating the problem. I had my mate started once to report mismatched firmware on my inverters. it did for few days that until I reset it. you should probably enable the mate reset every 24h. and check to be sure you have the latest firmware. Learned that one sometime ago....

Re: AC Backfeed Error

True that fcwlp. I just don't want to push it on the weekend when there is no tech support available. I'm fairly certain it is the primary inverter that is losing it's mind. I have had the mate complain about a firmware mismatch on it (there is not) as well as the mate appearing to reprogram it a co...

Re: AC Backfeed Error

EAGLE-ONE is correct. The inverters do share load well before it gets to 8kW. We had full sun yesterday when this happened so there should not be a battery issue(?). They are 8 years old, DEKA flooded lead-acid 820 amp hours, showing no real signs of degradation. In the summer, they rarely go much b...

Re: AC Backfeed Error

OK. I may wait until Monday to do that load test, just in case it breaks something. We are an active Bed & Breakfast with guests this weekend, so we don't want to do that in crisis mode or on a generator. :-) Stay tuned.

Re: AC Backfeed Error

You are correct. 8048s. I went through all settings this morning and everything seems configured correctly, with one exception. The AC output on the master was rightly configured to 240, but the slave was set to 260. I don't know if it has been like this since 2012 or something changed it recently. ...

AC Backfeed Error

System installed in 2012 and running perfectly for 8 years. 17kWh solar and two GS8048s. Got this error today "AC Backfeed Error GS2". We are off grid and the AC is running, along with an electric dryer at the time. Perhaps 8,000 watt load. Had the wet clothes moved to the gas dryer. What does this ...

Re: Generator Running (It should not be)

Just in case anyone ever runs into this... My issue was a short in the two-wire start to the generator, underground in the conduit. The bonehead installer did a very poor splice and the conduit is wet. (Clearly not sealed well...) The splice got wet and shorted, starting the generator. At least the ...

Re: Generator Running (It should not be)

Stutch, try isolating the wire between the generator and your system (disconnect both ends) and see if the generator still starts and runs. I have not proven it with a replacement wire yet, but here is what I know: If i disconnect the two wires from my aux port on the inverter, the generator still s...

Re: Generator Running (It should not be)

Ha, JRHill. Time spent reading the installation guides tells me my installers effed me (again) and did not put a relay between the generator and the inverter. Wired the generator directly. We did almost all of the install ourselves, but paid "an experienced" installer to do the work at the inverters...

Re: Generator Running (It should not be)

Yeah, not the generator. The system seems to be stuck "on", in spite of me having it set to manual "off". I guess a ticket to the support folks is in order. I had to change the 12vdc relay off the auxiliary port last year so the problem was neither OB or the genset. The relay was operating but it h...

Please get an https certificate for your website(s). Your forms (like the one I just filled out for support with my contact info and this forum) are sending data in clear text out across the nasty internet. Please spend a few bucks and get a certificate and protect our data. Thanks. :-)

Generator Running (It should not be)

Anyone seen this before? I came home to a running generator (it had just started a few minutes earlier). The thing is, it should not have been running. Batteries at 90%, plenty of voltage, house drawing 500 watts, Mate on Auto. Manually set it to off on the Mate, it kept running. Went outside and sh...

More water use lead-acid batteries under more load??

Anyone know if I would expect more water vapor if I'm pouring more kWhs through my batteries (off grid system)? I recently put in mini-split ACs, and we run them when the sun is out and it's hot. All five of them at once can add up to 6,000 watts steady load. A "normal" day's use is about 20 kWh, a ...

Re: can the 8048A handle a conventional well pump?

It can, but when the pump starts to fail, it might not like it when the voltage spike goes wild on startup. And your generator will definitely not like it. Guaranteed. Put in a Soft Start pump, like this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002NJIK0I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=...

Great solution! Bought the relay... I was thinking there was a far more complex solution out there that I would have to implement.

Thanks!

Re: Managing Large Loads / Tripping GFDI

I use AUX on one of the FM80s (Float trigger) to turn on the circuit to the Hot Water Heater. This works perfectly. The dryer is just wired directly. The human using it is smart enough to only push the start button when the sun is out. Else, the gas dryer is used. I want to automagically disable the...

Managing Large Loads / Tripping GFDI

I have a 12,000 watt array running through three strings and three FM80s into my system. (We have a 4th array and a wind turbine too, but for this excercise the issue is with the three strings and the GFDI they all run through.) The background: I have an electric hot water heater that is automatical...

Re: Two Generators? Anyone setup redundant generators?

@ Kurt Lundquist - I'll add just a little to the hijack. All of the solar and wind components were procured and self installed by my kids and me, after I took a beginner's installers course at http://www.altestore.com, also located in MA (they used to give them in person, now it's on-line). I saved ...

Re: Two Generators? Anyone setup redundant generators?

Sounds like a nice little getaway house. :-) One last tidbit - I'm assuming your system will have some sort of controller similar to the MATE. I'm hoping it's internet enabled like the MATE, as it is really cool to be able to monitor system status and make adjustments from anywhere - even turn the g...
