Re: General Battery Charging Question - Partial State of Cha

Sometimes the simple answers are often overlooked. Look at ways to reduce the nighttime loads first, perhaps using timers. I am in a high desert, very hot in the daytime cool at night, normally a 40 + temperature deviation. One method commonly used here is to shut down the freezer with a timer at ni...

Re: What generator to buy (power and type)

Cheep generators may not be ok with the inverter, the inverter test the input power before accepting and using it. The best plan overall is a inverter-generator running on propane , the Honda EU 2000 is a small very quite model, with a excellent rating, but costly compared to others. Since you may b...

Re: adding a FM60 to an FP1

Nice install, when adding 2nd charge controller is it not necessary to change settings so both work together without conflict?

Re: DC disconnect

FP 1-2 already has all necessary DC and AC protection installed (built into unit) the only other item needed is the combiner box that you seem to already have. That was the main reason I chose the FlexPower 1-2 for my last 4 installs, small foot print + all properly sized breakers and switches insta...

Terminals Breakers Switches and BusBars

I am planning on making some changes and would like to add separate fuses and a switch to the battery bank. I looked at Blue Sea equipment and was not sure if the switches and circuit breakers were correct ones to use for a solar application. The items I considered are below, can I please get some o...

Re: adding 2nd system

Thanks David keeping one Mate on each system seems the best way to go, it's best to get things up and working normal before making any changes . Have you looked at the parts I am considering ? I am sure someone on this group has used some Blue Sea parts, I just want to be sure that they are up to th...

adding 2nd system

I have a opportunity to add a second system to our solar power, it is the same unite, the Outback Flex Power One 1-2 as I have now. I would like to do this for three reasons; one to have redundancy if one system is down for any reason. Two; I have more solar panels (4230 watts 6 strings of 3 panels)...

Solar storms

What effect if any will solar storms have on PV power systems and is there any thing we could do to protect our systems ? The June 2012 issue of National Geographic talks about a large solar storm predictions being able to destroy the power grid in North America, will this affect a Outback Power sys...

Re: limits of Flexmax 80

Thanks Vic your explanation helps a-lot. I get it, no demand no flow no circuit, "Sometimes complex things come easy for me, but the simple ones always stump me". I may not have a problem with overproduction after all. Reviewing it, while it may get cooler my panels are on a almost flat carport roof...

Re: limits of Flexmax 80

Thank You Mary, I see, so the FM80 would trip the 80 breaker. Another charge controller will be added as soon as I can afford one, a second inverter also, as we will be totally dependent on the system for our needs and down time would cause problems. I have the utmost faith in Outback equipment but ...

limits of Flexmax 80

I am almost ready to add 6 more solar panels to my system and having difficulty determining the correct way to go about it and would like some other opinions. First off , will I have two many panels connected to the Flex max 80? Currently their are 12 panels and want to add 6 more. the panels are Sh...

BTM placement in Flex Power 1

I recently installed my FP 1-2 and have question about BTM. The documentation shows installing the temperature sensor in the FX, being setup offgrid all my charging will normally be from the charge controller not the inverter. Will the Outback equipment see and utilize the information supplied by th...

I would recommend getting the Flex net dc with the system, it really expands the information you get on the Mate. Great easy to install system. Chuck

Re: help needed with programing

Vic I really appreciate you taking the time to help me, thank you. I will check out "the Shack" next time I get to town, we have a Shack in the ACE store and it is only 70 miles. I do have a very good clamp on but since I always used it for AC, I was not aware if the same meter could be used for bot...

Re: help needed with programing

Vic I appreciate your well thought out response. You hit the nail on the head. I added 8 batteries to the bank about the same time frame the Green lite quite blinking. I did adjust the Amp Hours of the battery bank but I did not think about resetting the FN-DC to recognize the new SOC. I also need t...

Re: FlexPower One?

Yes I just bought two systems both came with a temperature sensor, it was in a long narrow white box about 11" by 1". A quick look one might think it was just a green computer cord. Hope you find it. Chuck

help needed with programing

Hi this is Chuck in the BIG BEND of West Texas. I would like some help understanding my Offgrid Outback system. First I should describe the system so my questions make sense. 3.6KW Outback Flexpower one fp1-2 with VFX 3648, Flexnet DC, Flex max 80. 12 Shott 235 watt panels wired in 4 sets of 3 to th...
