Re: what about lithium ?

am just saying that for example a SimpliPhi Power PHI 3.5kWh Smart Tech Lithium Battery, 24V @ $3,295.00 like i saw in stores in the US , i get a 50 kWh fork lift battery here in Europe and with that battery i can avoid diesel generators and fossil fuel use , because much more freedom and time much ...

Re: what about lithium ?

still lead acid is much cheaper and a proven history , not saying its the future , because lead is not unlimited , but per kWh one can use costs are far lower than lithium

about 7 cent per kWh taken out of the FLA battery or about 60 dollars per KW capacity

Re: Gas Motor Driven DC Generator

I'd like to hook up via a belt drive to a permanent magnet DC treadmill motor rated at 130 volts and 20 amps.
sounds like a good plan to connect to an Outback MPPT chargecontroller ,
i personally prever direct battery charging instead of AC generators

Re: What to look for in a generator for AGS compatibility

That Kohler sounds like a heavy duty generator is it watercooled ? It could do some heating in winter :) anyway hope you keep it , just in case the new one has a problem Sure those honda ones a nice lightweight and silent Kipor diesel one was my first automated one and worked for a while , in genera...

the previous owner has an ancient diesel generator
Any idea what make and size it is and is it not working anymore ?

Re: 400v 3ph Generator Charging 1ph 240v system VFX3024e

[quoteHi billi, That is an interesting idea. In that case I would dump the rectified DC into the battery bank via a charge controller. The FX inverter can already do the DC to AC conversion so there wouldn't be a need to buy a separate GTI inverter. ][/quote] Hi Kurt i came across that idea when i b...

this is a good read up about generators and sizing them in off grid situations https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/VE_Marine_generator_test_RVA_07-jan-2008.pdf If someone is intrested to read through  5. Re: Correct Size Genset

Hi , It looks to me that your PV is the right size for that battery bank , so its hard to advice to get more even thats what i would concider as an idea , you are in south Africa ? I guess you could oversize the PV , but limit the max amps flowing into the battery , as well an AC couppling idea make...

Re: Correct Size Genset

I know the size of the battery by now , but your electricity consumption would be more intresting to know to get an idea of what size generator you need if there is no sun and no grid

Re: Correct Size Genset

Hi again

I still advice to get a direct DC batterry chargeing generator , does not have to be too big , the size depends on your demand
Your battery is about 50-60 kWh capacity (depending on what C value )

To size a generator you should figure out your consumption per day

Re: Correct Size Genset

Hello , what make of batteries do you have ?

Usually its not a big deal to cycle good batts further down for a few times a year

Personally if a generator is needed i would use a DC direct Battery charging unit to grant the stable sinwave juce of your inverters and more efficient charging

Re: 24KW diesel generator is enough to generate electricity?

Any idea of the costs ? no diesel generator on this planet can be better , cheaper than a Photovoltaik battery based systhem So my advice is to look into that first , if a generator is needed , cause of lack of sun in winter , get a small one that directly charges the battery and the off grid invert...

Re: Adding Wind Turbine to existing system

.... in my case , my windturbine would not need a dump load controller , cause its hardly strong enough to overfill my battery on its own and if so every 5 years :) the inverter has a programable relais to start an AC dump , that i use as a general dump for my wind , PV and hydro generator , so am q...

Re: Adding Wind Turbine to existing system

Hi , any link to that turbine ?
If you use the PV as well and the solid state aux feature of the FM cc , then as far as i was told you have to size the dump element so big that it can take the PV + the windturbine

Re: Adding Wind Turbine to existing system

Hi If the turbine is attached direct to the battery , than the turbine is generaly safe to run , cause the batt hold the turbine for not overspinning , only problem to avoid is overcharging the battery and tats when the Aux relays of the FM comes into game , but for a clever charging through absorb ...

Hi Andi On aspect to consider .... Hi Andi Nice to see you here :) Ac coupling means as far as i know it , to connect the GTI on the consumer side or the AC- out of the Off Grid inverter and the surplus of not directly consumed is feed back into the offgrid inverter and uses the charger to charge the batteries From other off grid inv...

Re: Using 2nd String Battery Bank as Generator

Hi , if your inverter is able to work with AC-coupling then you possibly could connect a smal GTI (lige a Sun G 22- 60 Volt MPPt range ) to the 48 Volt second battery and switch that off when batt voltage drops

Just a thought
