Re: Power factor mismatch? Grid very low, SB=1

I've stepped through connecting everything, one item at a time. Starting with the battery, and nothing else (no PV, no load) obviously there'll be 0 grid use. But as soon as I connect the grid, grid use goes up to the high value. I documented this late in December to Outback: With the grid connected...

Re: Power factor mismatch? Grid very low, SB=1

I agree, it's hard to judge what's going on with a snapshot, and normally I wouldn't be too concerned about power factor. But my Skybox system draws an unusual amount of grid power when there's no solar input (mainly at night). Outback says normal grid draw under those conditions is around 150 watts...

Re: Power factor mismatch? Grid very low, SB=1

Okay...but now grid PF=0.65, without anything changing except more PV input...

Power factor mismatch? Grid very low, SB=1

Can anyone explain the difference between the Skybox power factor indication (here it shows 1) Screenshot_20200331-104210_Samsung Internet.jpg and the grid power factor (here, at the same time, it shows 0.07)? 20200331_104054.jpg And why is the grid PF so low? The load on the SB is just a small frid...

Re: OpticsRE showing strange data and logs

I don't know if this'll work for you or not, but in Optics click on device map, then click on your Mate device, and scroll down to your TCP/IP address. Copy this address into your web browser and maybe you'll get a better idea about what's really going on. FWIW - Mike

Time of use rates still using battery when grid price is low

I've set up my Skybox with the intention of forcing it to connect to grid in the daytime, by setting grid pricing much lower than my own Levelized Cost Of Energy, using the time of use function. My thinking is that this should prevent battery use in the daytime when there's PV input, but also allow ...

Re: Funny Electrical Discharge Noise

Mine does not make any noise like this.

Is it possible to observe the inside of the BOS when this is happening? Sounds like arcing?

Since you're only hearing this when there's PV input, I would check your PV connections inside the Skybox BOS to make sure they are secure.

Thank you sir. That was my second guess. Would it do the same thing if I switched from "AC use" to AC drop" in the AC Input menu? There is no generator in my system, just the battery.
Not quite. The arrow goes away but grid voltage is still displayed.

Re: Parameter Inverter > High Battery

Again, I would refer you to the GS8048 manual, which clearly states the high battery cutout is fixed and not settable. Edit2: Sorry to be so blunt - So I tried to look up your battery, hoping to find a manufacturer spec for high voltage limit, and this tech spec https://en.byd.com/energy/b-box-ess/ ...

Re: Help! FM80 Charge Controller Won't Wake Up!

Has it ever worked properly, or is this a new install where it has never worked from day one?

I just returned a 6 year old FM80 to Outback for repairs. It exhibited the same symptoms as yours, (edit) right after trying to start an equalization.

Sorry for possible bad news...

On my system the arrow showing sell or buy (depends on direction it's pointing) disappears and the voltage goes to 0:

Re: Parameter Inverter > High Battery

Are you referring to a setting on the Mate3s menu? I don't have a Radian inverter but I do have a Mate3s and there's no sub-menu in my Mate3s for High battery... My guess (FWIW) is whatever you're looking at may be an update to the GS8048 high battery setting (cited in previous post above). Looks li...

It refers to changing to 48 volts but the same steps apply for a change to 24 volts.

Re: Does this hardware exist?

There are 3rd party systems that would give you this info separately thru an app, and you could mount some sort of monitor showing the data near your OB equipment. This site shows a few: https://emporiaenergy.com/best-home-energy-monitor/?gclid=CjwKCAjwsMzzBRACEiwAx4lLG4OV7WSQlt0mjQusOralBIdcFtoO94t...

Re: High battery voltage w/ AC coupled system

Around 3:15 pm that day (a tad later than when the battery voltage spike occurred) the grid voltage went out of range, which should've disconnected the Skybox from grid and permitted it to alter its AC output frequency to prevent the grid-tied microinverters from overcharging the battery... Re: High battery voltage w/ AC coupled system

Mike, any idea of what caused the start of the ramp up to 63+ volts? It was holding steady at ~54V prior to that even with the solar peaking during the 54V period. No, but it looks like it went into an absorb cycle based on the peak charge data point shown here: Screenshot_20200315-072106.jpg And d...

My Skybox system with Simpliphi batteries consistently runs above 54 volts. This is too high for these batteries. Just a couple of comments:

1) The smaller Firman is recoil start, I didn't see electric start mentioned.
2) Neither of the others mentions availability of an AGS start kit, so with them you'd have to rig something up yourself.

Hey Mike, Have you run a capacity test on the FLA battery? It would seem a perfect case study on the long term effects of holding a Deep Cycle FLA in Float service. Did SimpliPhi mention how their battery can be held at, what I presume is 100% SoC? Is that a correct presumption? There's not much pr...
