Is this accurate?

For some time I have been having issues with one array/FM100. Actually I have been operating without it for a couple of months now and have done every test I can think of. The immediate question though relates to an Outback Webinar I found. I have submitted this two times with the link but eventuall...

Re: FM100 misery again

Opps you are correct, I had mistyped the inverters (corrected in the profile now to) Outback VFXR 3524A Flex Power 2, prewired with Flexnet DC SOC monitor and Mate3. Yes 300 AH on the battle borns, I will need to add several more before the dark days of winter, as the funds allow. I am now back to c...

Re: FM100 update

FM 100 updates. You may recall I was so frustrated with the two new FM100s (one the original purchase, the other just sent as RMA) and the original was silent. Ian suggested there was a configuration error, but the configurations are identical in the Mate3s. So as a thought experiment first I physic...

Re: FM100 misery again

Raysun, you pointing me to Ians Webinar about the AFCI may have put me onto something. As I had ordered these in Feb 2020 I received the FM100AFCI. With the sensor coil. But the manual I received was for the earlier generation. Nothing in that manual spoke to the coil. And it was zip tied to the gro...

Re: FM100 misery again

Raysun, The only thing between the each CC and the batteries is a breaker. The FM 100s have internal arc fault devices. (Which are VERY touchy) The manual advises to remove external arc fault devices in normal conditions. I did have an arc fault 150 vdc breaker setup in the Flex power 2, which I rem...

Re: FM100 misery again

And while it would be logical to suggest I had bad connections before and just happened to get them right this time, please note. I have done this pv input switch both as one way and two way several times over the last two days with consistent results. And also that I am receiving NO errors from the...

Re: FM100 misery again

Thanks Ian, again. My current test does show the replacement FM 100 is working. But is a goofball test. First I physically switched the FM100s as suggested by Raysun above and the new FM100 performed fine on Array 2, the always working FM100 did not perform at all, went silent on Array 1. So I decid...

Re: FM100 misery again

Thanks for the reply Raysun. I cannot visualize how physically switching the FM100s would make a difference. I had already wired the PV input wires across. But as my wits are at an end, I just did the physical switcheroo you suggested. It is late in the day however. So the results will show in about...

FM100 misery again

See prior post " FM100 ground fault error" for context. OK this is miserable. In order to handle additional voltages due to switching out panels I “ upgraded” to two Outback FM100s from the comparatively robust FM80s I had, and all breakers, combiners etc. All was fine for month, then one of the FM1...

Re: FlexMax 100 ground fault error

Update, My solar installation electrician finally determined the FM 100 to be faulty, after we spent way more than the cost of the FM 100 trying to find the issue on our side. He prepared a report on the 16th and began calling support, on the 20th he was able to request an RMA but still by the 26th ...

Re: FlexMax 100 ground fault error

Thanks Ian. I sort of put Optics RE on hold, as we have no dedicated Internet up here. Just phone data. I will try to work that out again. As to settings, both the FM 100s have the same settings in the Mate3s. and exactly the same arrays. One works fine....

Re: FlexMax 100 ground fault error

Yes Ian, Yes one of the fuses in the pair is removed. Yes I experimented with also removing the jumper, which per the manual is done to disable the internal GFDI. The unit did charge, but only at 2 -3 ampa while its partner on an identical array was charging at 12>. After I posted the above about th...

Re: FlexMax 100 ground fault error

Well I have been going crazy with this FM 100s errors. I could get it into a 2 amp absorb by removing the negative bond jumper, but that's useless. I pulled the dozen panels it handles, checked all individually, remade the grounds, tested the connections everywhere. then I found this test on this fo...

Re: FlexMax 100 ground fault error

Yes I had removed the GFDI, and no I did not pull a fuse. You have now proved two things, YOU can read, and I cannot. =D> I have now pulled one of the fuses and we will see if that resolves the issue. Thanks so much.

FlexMax 100 ground fault error

Going through major upgrades, and having growing pains. So about a month ago I Installed 2 FM 100s in place of the FM 80s I had because I was also upping the PV to 6 KW from 3.5 KW. All was well on the charging side for a while, but now one of the two keeps throwing a ground fault error, and shuttin...

Ian... I reset the Mate 3 to factory defaults, and she connected! Woohoo, so now I have real-time monitoring. \:D/ Should I change the name? If so how?

Ian, yes tried your suggestion, actually I do not think the Mate 3 is recognizing the internet. The netmask just reads " connecting" Do I need to get a wifi adapter or some such?

Re: New to me FLEXpowerTWO

](*,) Again with questions! I have been away for a month, reconfigured the VFX3524 Flexpower2 for 120 vac, added some surge protection grounding as suggested, and ordered 2 FM100s to handle the pv upgrade from 3500 to 6000 w. The snowstorm we are having gave me the time to think about Optics RE. So ...

Re: New to me FLEXpowerTWO

Thanks so much. So my read is to add Square D surge at ac distribution panel, by substituting breakers etc, not double tapping. Adding this would be to protect AC devices after the main, for strays coming in from 2 sub panels. Then protection at pv side of each FM80, and update grounds as needed. Am...

Re: New to me FLEXpowerTWO

So I'm working out plans for lightning, surge protection at the flexpower2. Adding whole house at the square d service panel. I think I am allowed to double tap a double pole for that? Anyway the inverters have surge protectors factory installed. Good on Outback, but do these somehow protect the cha...

Re: New to me FLEXpowerTWO

Thanks for the replies. Sorry for my late attention. I barely got the thing running before heading to south Asia for a month. Yes I wired as advised, and yes I get phase change errors. I was worried about that. Since I have done with 120 for so long, all use is set up for that. But I really do wish ...

New to me FLEXpowerTWO

FLEXpowerTWO wiring.JPG Hello, I have been off-grid with one VFX3524 and 2 FM 80s for 8-10 years, (self-assembled). When I started, there were no installers in my remote area, and now the few new ones are shy to come up here. Like many others, I needed to add a third?/fourth string. Anyway, so, Now...
