Power flow?

I'm not clear on power flow through/around Skybox given different power sources. If you have AC solar connected to the Skybox load output, it would seem to me that this could push any arbitrary amount of power to the loads since this bypasses the Skybox. I assume that this will all go to satisfy loa...

I may be overstating the obvious, but make sure to set the Skybox Generator Max Input Current Limit according to your source's capability.
Yes, thanks, I've got that set.

Re: Generator specs?

I have two potential sources of generator input. One is an actual small 120v generator (2500 W) and the other is my SMA inverter which during a power failure can provide up to 2000 W of 120v AC. I purchased a 110/220 volt transformer. This is a single wire wrapped around a circular core with a cente...

Re: 200 Watts at idle?!!!

I turned the inverter off over night so reduce drain but the unit then took power from the batteries... about 2.5 kWh so that's a problem there also... not just the inverter using a lot of power at idle. I just tested the power. It's recharging the batteries now (turned the inverter on) and it show...

Re: Passwords

Most devices permit a full system reset to default in the case of lost passwords. Requires physical access to the box so fairly secure.

Passwords

Just went through a hassle getting passwords for my system. They're not in any of the documentation that I could find for some reason and OB support tells me they have been very busy so less than responsive. I thought I'd post these here to help anybody setting up a system. The default password for ...

Having trouble accessing support

I've sent two technical support requests for two different issues. It's been several weeks and no response to either.
I've also called and waited through your phone message system and was promised a call back and have not received a call (it's been a week or two).
How can I get support for my Skybox?

Re: Generator specs?

I've been digging more into the documentation. In particular the Programming Manual has a lot more information on the generator. I've been assuming that you could run the generator, battery and solar all at the same time to meet the load. In order to do this you would have to run the generator input...

Re: 200 Watts at idle?!!!

The graph looks like you're drawing 250 W from the battery all night and then it recharges the battery from the solar during the day. The battery recharge during the day looks like it's about 250 W less than the solar generation. So I think this is still drawing 250 W continuous (5kWh per day) paras...

Re: 200 Watts at idle?!!!

In my Skybox, it looks like it's going the heatsink in the back of the unit. It's warm all the time.
Once the battery has charged, no power to it. Just "Resting".
Looks like I've purchased an expensive garage heater.

Re: 200 Watts at idle?!!!

That's interesting. So when I add solar, this vampire drain goes away? I don't really understand why but that is good news. I can keep the inverter turned off for now since I am only using it for emergency backup power (CA fires, etc.) but I do plan to add a solar string and that's good to hear that...

The battery charged when I first set it up and tested it but that only took an hour or so. Since then, the battery has been at full charge so it's not charging the battery.

200 Watts at idle?!!!

Just installed my Skybox and the inverter is reporting 200 Watt power draw from the grid with NO load! First 24 hours 5.2 kWh! It it really this inefficient? I have this set up primarily for emergency backup. I plan to add solar later but for now only have batteries. This is really not going to work...

Re: Generator specs?

The generator neutral wire is connected to the neutral bus with the grid and load circuits and does not go up to the inverter. I took the top cover off yesterday and attempted to trace the generator path. It's very busy up there but it looks to me that the generator input L1-L2 goes to the inverter ...

Re: Generator specs?

Ouch! That's a bad experience. That is why I would like some clarification from Outback on the generator input. It doesn't appear to me that the generator input uses the neutral wire and I infer that it must process the generator input somehow (such as running it through a separate inverter with a p...

Re: Generator specs?

Yes, I am clear that there is a connection between the Neutral and Ground buses at the service entrance (per NEC) and that is how my system is wired. However, the issue I am trying to sort out is whether or not the Neutral wire from the generator is used/necessary. The generator connection between t...

Re: Generator specs?

There is a neutral bus which I could connect to a generator neutral wire. However, the generator input to the Skybox doesn't use a neutral wire. Unlike the Grid and Load connectors which both connect the neutral to the upper unit, the Generator input connects the center neutral connector to ground. ...

Re: Generator specs?

Got my Skybox installed. Found a sticker on the side which states generator input 170-285 volts 48 amp max.
Doesn't seem to require a neutral wire.
I think I'll set up the generator input as a backup at least until AC coupling is available.

Re: Question about AC coupling

Hi Mike, Yes. AC Coupling for SkyBox is in beta testing now. When an AC array is connected to the output of the Skybox and the grid is "up" and operating, the excess (not being used in the critical loads panel) AC power flows through the Skybox to the grid. When the grid is down, the Skybox opens i...

Re: Question about AC coupling

I just ordered a Skybox. I have Enphase inverters. (Plan to add a DC string in the future. ) My Enphase inverters are connected to the grid at service entrance. Can I connect the grid input of the Skybox to these Enphase inverters (behind grid disconnect) and have them feed the Skybox during grid ou...
