Re: Another Mate3 Ethernet issue

So, tried to do the FW update again and it would not work. I still have a dead Ethernet port. If I have to replace it with a Mate3S, is it as simple as plugging it in and restoring the old config from the Mate3?

Re: Another Mate3 Ethernet issue

The latest radian firmware only supported Mate3s. My Mate 3 kept rebooting due to incompatibility and was upgraded at no cost to me by outback during the warranty period. That solved all problems. Interesting. The FW does not say it is incompatible and I am not seeing any reboots. Thanks for lettin...

I'm glad you found Apex Solar and had a great experience with them! I extend my/our appreciation to both you and Farrel.
Thanks Bo. Farrel is a great guy. He is very responsive and very familiar with the Radian. I highly recommend him to anyone in the South San Francisco Bay Area.

Re: Another Mate3 Ethernet issue

You are playing loose with the terms Mate 3 and Mate 3S. The Mate 3 is discontinued. And the Mate 3 will not play nice with a Radian on the latest firmware. Please make sure only Mate 3 firmware is flashed to a Mate 3 and Mate 3S firmware to a Mate 3S. Mixing them is BAD. Not playing loose at all. ...

Yes. Ethernet on Mate3. Was working at one point today and then after the FW upgrade it died.

Re: Powering up 8048A without battery

Found a local technician who diagnosed a failed inverter module. He got the replacement installed today, updated the firmware and configured all my settings. Finally, this albatross flies!

Only problem I have now is the Ethernet port just died.

Re: Installer/Service Tech

I could also use a referral, in the same vicinity (east s.f. bay area), as my installer is unresponsive except for warranty issues. Difficult to find anyone interested in any work other than new installs. Not sure what I would do if I had an actual equipment failure. S/D So, I have been working wit...

Another Mate3 Ethernet issue

Upgrading my Mate3 to the newest FW and now the Ethernet port is dead. Before I shell out $ for a Mate3s, I read the following; "Try downloading the latest firmware from the website and placing it onto the root of the MATE3S SD Card. Then, put the SD card into the MATE3S and hold the "Up" button unt...

Re: Powering up 8048A without battery

Thanks guys. I have gone through the whole system. No panels connected right now. It was AC coupled but due to a lack of support from SolarEdge and at the direction of Discover, I decoupled it. I might add DC coupled panels in the future or recouple it when I can get someone to guarantee it will not...

Installer/Service Tech

Anyone know where I can find a reputable installer/service tech in Northern California or SF Bay Area? I have a 5 year old Radian 8048A that has never been commissioned and when doing so released some smoke and sparks. I need someone to fix it and get it running.
Thanks

Re: Powering up 8048A without battery

The discover people would not sign off on the AC coupled array and I could not get SolarEdge to confirm that the 2014 vintage SE6000 supported the frequency/watt shifting which appears to be a later revision to IEEE 1547 I don't know why they won't confirm their inverter is Rule 21 compliant, their...

Re: Powering up 8048A without battery

Should be able to if you have the battery, inverter, and an AC power source (generator, grid) to connect to the AC IN (NOT AC COUPLED). If the Discover is fully charged, I'm not sure what the issue would be to simply connect it. The Inverter will power up with minimal draw. If the AC OUT is disconn...

Re: Powering up 8048A without battery

Not sure what you mean by the Outback was AC coupled and not supported.  There is an OB app note for using Discover batteries with Radian inverters: http://outbackpower.com/downloads/documents/appnotes/discover_app_note.pdf The Radian can also accept an AC-coupled array: http://outbackpower.com/dow...

Re: Powering up 8048A without battery

Thanks. Long story short, spent a ton of $$$ on the battery only to find out that the Outback was AC coupled and not supported. Many months of work and much $$$ later, the GTI is removed from the Outback. Now, I am both out of $$$ and out of work so cannot add solar panels yet. Was hoping to use it ...

Powering up 8048A without battery

Can the 8048A be powered up without batteries and solar array to start the programming? I'm getting conflicting information from the battery supplier (discover) that it must be configured first before the batteries are connected. The instructions say to connect batteries first. I need to update firm...

Re: Grid Sell and Electric Meter

When my 10kW system was getting inspected for approval in 2015, I left it on after it passed inspection. However, my utility company (PGE) did not credit me for any power I sent to the grid until they got all paperwork in order. That took about 3 weeks. My meter was already net metering capable beca...

Re: PV turns off when charging batteries

OK I think I'm beginning to follow now. I did not catch that there are two conversations here. Also, did not see that there were both DC and AC couplings in the pss system. I was focused on the AC side. Still, the AC side seems to exceed Outback's recommendation of 6kW solar with the two SunnyBoy GT...

Re: PV turns off when charging batteries

Can you elaborate how you are making the AC subpanel connections in the GSLC? It looks like you have it connected to an FNDC? Earlier, you said it was a GFDI. Aren't both of these DC? I am asking because I am in the midst of retrofitting an AC coupled system like this but have an ROCB in my GSLC whe...

Re: AC coupled SolarEdge to Radian

WOW 2000ah Lithium bank? What are you, a small city? I listened to the webinar and found it very helpful. As far as I can tell, the reason the original installer went with AC coupling was due to panel shading concerns. He wanted to maximize power production in order to maximize the return on t...

Re: How to convert AC coupled to DC?

The only way to do that is with a manual bypass breaker of some sort so you cannot back feed the inverter or the utility line when the grid is down. You would also need to regulate the AC with a dump/diversion load or automated relay to shut off the GTI when loads are low and batteries are fully cha...
