Power loss from Gen to Batts, how to account?

Hi, Curious if someone can help me understand the power losses going on in my system. I have a 14.4kw gen, altitude derated to 8.7kw. About 40%...matches mnfctr spec. Voltage drop from gen to inverter measures to be less than 0.3% I see at Radian GSLC Gen In Brkr : 239.7vac and 36.1aac, or 8650W - a...

Re: FNDC and SimpliPhi batteries

First, Keith Briggs, we are practically neighbors. I grew up on the Big Island, high school at HPA in Waimea. I have lived in Evergreen for 7 years, transitioning to new off grid house in Eagle County. About a mile in behind Safeway in Evergreen. Regarding Blue Ion, I’d like to hear more. They were ...

Re: FNDC and SimpliPhi batteries

Mauricio, Yeah, funny. I just checked out your website link. Looks awesome. We were just debating between going to Los Cabos area or elsewhere for mid Feb. Decided 70 degree water wasn't enough for us. So Baja another year. 11,000' is challenging, especially off grid. Middle of national forest on an...

Re: FNDC and SimpliPhi batteries

Thank you Mauricio, gtarolli, and Mike. I'm sensing we are required to be more scientist than I assumed rolling into LFPs. If that bothered me I wouldn't be living off grid at 11,000'. But I'm surprised. All of you added more to my knowledge base. Thank you for that. I'm not unhappy with these batte...

Re: FNDC and SimpliPhi batteries

Hi Everyone. I'm really struggling with these Simpliphi batteries. I've been taking good info away from these forums and experimenting, but I'm left with a couple questions I'm hoping are simple for you all to shed light on, if you don't mind. First, my existing conditions: Just built off grid house...

Re: NEW* How To Set Up SimpliPhi™ Batteries Using OutBack Chargers

I have 12 Simpliphi 3.5's, and have 6 hooked up to a single Radian8048 while I make my busses to add a second Radian and the other batteries. Talked to Simpliphi, they say these new settings are appropriate for all their batteries... 3.4, 3.5, and 3.8's. I'm not getting results that make sense to me...

FM100 and String Sizing Tool

Hi All, According to the latest string sizing tool, I can have 3 strings of 5 panels connected to an FM100. Using Solarworld SW350's, at minimum temp of -25F, bumping the voltage up to around 281Vdc of Min Temp VOC for each string. This is a little confusing to me because the FM100 is supposed to on...

Re: IBR 3 175 LI wiring and breakers?

Well, one question answered. I just realized that the Radian 8048 was anticipated to have (2) DC+ cables and (2) DC- cables coming in from the batteries. So now I'm just curious how the IBR3-175-LI is setup. If all three shelves are combined after their 175 breakers, then I guess dual 4/0 cables for...

Re: IBR 3 175 LI wiring and breakers?

Raysun, Actually, Outback has an IBR3 wired to hold 6 lithium batteries, it gets the LI designation. As I'm looking at how to wire up 6 SimpliPhi 3.5's, I'm suddenly wondering how this bank would support a Radian surge of 12kw or 16kw? First question is the breakers, which if the lithium model of IB...

IBR 3 175 LI wiring and breakers?

Hi, Does Outback have a wiring diagram with breakers and such for the IBR 3 175 LI? The SimpliPhi batteries are rated at 34ADC continuous, but they can surge to 60ADC. 6 batteries can support a 16kw Radian surge power putting out roughly 54ADC each, but that adds up to 324ADC total parallel amps. Th...

FM80 always silent? Power lower limit?

Hi, I recently replaced a 24v Xantrex system with a new 48v FP1 with FM80 and new 48v batteries. The array, for the moment is still a couple of old 24v nominal panels. They output 41vdc and 5.5adc several hours per day per my meter. ItÔÇÖs a tiny 220w or so until I get the new panels in. The FM 80 r...

Altitude de-rating ??

ANSI says that transformers that use air for insulation or a dielectric(?) have to be de-rated for altitude. Do radian and FXR inverters need to be de-rated for altitude? Spec says: .3% de-rate for every 330ÔÇÖ over 3300ÔÇÖ. My elevation is 11k. So I might be looking at a 7% de-rating. Round to 10%....

Re: New FP1 not inverting, but all else working

Solved it. Totally random thing. There was a misaligned pin in the cat5 port on the inverter, I found it just by chance when checking all the wiring connections more thoroughly. I went to fix it and when touching the pin with a screwdriver, I think first pin on the left, the inverter lit up. So afte...

New FP1 not inverting, but all else working

Hey all, I just installed a new FP1 in a remote off grid application, with a 14kw Kohler generator. Everything is working great, except, the inverter won't invert. Generator bypass gets me my AC power. Where the mate has the option to turn the inverter on, off, or search, the inverter is off, and th...

Re: Connecting 24v DC device loads on 48v FP1 system

Mike, Thanks for the photo, that is convenient having those busses. So, based on the photo I have included below of the DC neg shunt at the inverter, does it matter where I attach to? The options are clear in the photo...left side of shunt, right side, or at inverter terminal. I imagine I need to at...

Re: Connecting 24v DC device loads on 48v FP1 system

Thank you Mike, Did you connect directly to the +/- terminals for the battery on the inverter with 5/16" lugs or elsewhere? I'm an engineering type and just starting to get hands-on with this. Studied a lot, had some training, but just now digging in and installing my own stuff to start with. That i...

Connecting 24v DC device loads on 48v FP1 system

Hi, I'm upgrading a 24v Trace 3524 inverter system in an old cabin to an FP1 vfxr3648 system. Batteries are also upgraded. For the most part, there are no issues as just about everything is AC. However, there are 3 DC loads that have to continue to function and they are 24vdc. Two of them are 4 amp ...
