Re: Thoughts on Refurbished Forklift Batts

Been off grid using forklift batteries for 6 years. Purchased them "seperated" meaning they are individual "cells" instead of the big metal tray with lead straps. This means I was able to handle them with hand truck- weighing at about 120lbs each. I used 18 plate 680ah cells. 24 of them at first pur...

Re: Radian 8048 Shuts off on surge

6years so far on that inverter off grid solar only. No issues. But: i think your problem will be a bad battery or bad connection to the battery. whereas the voltage drops enough to kick off the inverter when a load is present. Mate3 would reveal this, but you can test for it by using a varying load,...

Re: Radian in outbuilding--need separate ground rod?

I am off grid, so no code to adhere to in my installation. Metal structure was engineered with the very center being the common ground, minimizing carrying an emp to anything potentially damaging. Lets use an example: ONE common ground is superior in combating lightning damage. Consider that you hav...

Re: can the 8048A handle a conventional well pump?

Have been 6years without issues. Larger than normal pressure tank is suggested, to minimize cycles (like other user said) is a wise idea and have done that also in my setup. My pump is a "off the shelf" 120v power model. But since the Radian output is 240v it would be actually better to use the 240v...

Re: how much down time do you expect

Extended downtime was unacceptable to me, so I purchased a 4048 as a spare parts unit. So far 6 yrs, never needed anything from it. Totally off grid, and only needed about 6kw production, so opted to not install the dual radian configuration because it would just draw power being turned on. (I also ...

Re: Radian 8048a shuts off At under 7000 watt loads

A few factors that could be overlooked that may be culplrit: 1. battery terminals: if DC input voltage under load goes low enough to trigger shutdown, it will measure proper without load attached and may be hard to find. You may already know this however. (this alleged terminal fault could exist wit...

Re: Inverter based heat pumps - success stories ?

Inverter based motor controls (refrigeration compressors and other pumps typically) use a multiple phase motor and an electronic circuit to drive it like a stepper motor. It is called inverter based because it inverts the power to a high voltage (usually held in capacitor bank) before actually "driv...

Re: WattPlot poll

My weather has to be gathered at the site (no internet & off grid), including UV index and "cloud rating" (derived only from solar production data of the present day compared to "known expected" calculated from historical and time/date info). Data taken from outback system. (charge controllers) (for...

Re: Battery Temperature ### (in data only)

You are using streaming data, and the firmware must have gotten that correct concerning temperature. My method was parsing the dump as a file, and that's the method the web page uses. (that's where the firmware is fragged.) I could switch to use streaming, but I only needed to sample by request, and...

Re: WattPlot poll

When I set about mining data from the Mate3 (2+yrs ago) I did NOT learn about wattplot, actually I found out about it today. Tried the trial version (that did not connect under trial license to tcp.ip LAN connected MATE3). Seemed well written and very useful, however my integration with home automat...

Re: Battery Temperature ### (in data only)

I tried the wattplot trial version, it will not allow LAN connection to mate3, so I am left unknowing, and judging from the software website my scripting does the same thing (plus more), so I am not needing to purchase it for the one data field. If WattPlot Monitor PRO can PROPERLY get the data from...

Re: Off-Grid Home, need to overcome LRA of 141 on 5 ton Air

Another option is using Mini-Splits, either to supplement or instead of the central unit (which may run from gen) I have good luck running 3 of them at a time, total 2.5tons. I am willing to bet you can get two 2ton units to do rather well, assuming you have good insulation! - for "most" weather con...

Re: Need value of r19 beast PSU

R20 is visibly burned also from your photo. This is probably due to some other failure, replacing the resistor itself is very very unlikely going to fix the board. Check the warranty status, you could be in for a free fix- if under warranty Outback sends you a new board. Otherwise I would suspect th...

Re: Inverter based heat pumps - success stories ?

This is a reply to a fairly old post, but the info may be useful to someone since I have some relative info to offer... My Radian system is feeding three separate inverter based air conditioners... They are 220v, and are mini-splits. (fresh air system is a series of recovery exchangers) They are con...

Re: distilling your own water

I integrated and fitted my automation system with ability to sense a flow sensor and control a valve, then fitted my batteries with autofill shutoff valves. Then I connected my REVERSE OSMOSIS system supply (thru a De-Ionizing Filter) to a 5psi water regulator. Automation system counts the AMP HOURS...

Re: Mate3 Connectivity Survey

2years so far... Only had 1 issue where I had to unplug the cat5 between mate3 and hub10 to reset connectivity. It was after a storm, but being off grid and hundreds of worse storms that did nothing- that may be irrelevant. I "did have" - up until that day of the lockup (5mos from install) use the d...

Battery Temperature ### (in data only)

I will try to explain properly the issue, please read thru before posting a fix, because it is not the same as I have seen other users post about temperature sensor data... have a RTS connected to the Radian, have also tried another connected to FlexMax to rule that out. The temperature IS reported ...
