Re: Stacking - Other options?

Thanks. As I am reading up (catching back up to speed) on the Radian modes, I am wondering whether it is possible to setup the downstream Radian in Grid Zero mode and to split/feed the output of the upstream Radian both to the Grid Input of the downstream Radian (for sine wave synchup) and to the ou...

Re: Stacking - Other options?

Yes, Kurt's solution is the best and the "by the book" solution. But if @bear really wants to experiment, the concerns aired can be mitigated, I think. To avoid selling by the downstream inverter, set the sell voltage to an unreal/unreachable voltage, like 60V, or the sell current to 0A, for double...

Re: Stacking - Other options?

I may never exceed the 50amps of a single Radian, so if that is the limit that I must live with then so be it. At the very least, this setup should allow the downstream Radian to go into pass thru after it has exhausted its battery bank, thus doubling my total AHs. Additionally, it provides a conven...

Re: Stacking - Other options?

So the follow on question is what parts if any do I need to replace such that the combined output of the to can be safely fed to the distribution panel? It has been awhile since I read the Radian docs but I seem to recall that the inverter would supplement demands greater than 50amps using grid inpu...

Stacking - Other options?

I have two completely independent 8048a Radian Pre-wired Power Centers, with batteries in an off-grid setup. They are 75 feet apart in separate rooms. Can the two AC outputs be bussed together to feed a single panel board, without configuring them in a master/slave relationship? If this requires a s...

Re: Stacked Flexpower

Thanks. So is 50 amps the top end continuous output for a grid tied inverter? If I feed the one inverter output to the grid in of the second inverter, what is the limit on the combined output of the second ÔÇ£grid tiedÔÇØ inverter? IÔÇÖm not sure IÔÇÖll need it, but I was hoping to get a combined 10...

Re: 4 terminal LiFePo batteries - will they work?

Sorry, there was a typo. These batteries are designed for .6C charge/discharge, which for the 700AH battery is 420A. The BMS comes with all the standard protections and a cell balancing function. Short circuit protection Over-current protection (both charge and discharge) Over-voltage protection (cu...

Re: 4 terminal LiFePo batteries - will they work?

The battery has a single Anderson Powerpole connector (red). You are required to order yourself a matching Anderson connector and wire it to your Outback power center. I have made a number of these myself and it is not very difficult. For a small profit above the cost of the components and shipping,...

Re: 4 terminal LiFePo batteries - will they work?

These batteries are designed for 350A charge and discharge capability. I've attached some pictures. Note: these pictures are of the previous generation of battery. The drawing ( New design 48V 700Ah .jpg ) shows the latest size/shape of this battery (same specs). I thought it better to take up less ...

Bummer.

So is there nothing out there that will take the 2 feeds and correct the phase difference to produce a single output?

Re: Stacked Flexpower

It is a bit of overkill. This particular system is off-grid. We have constructed a chapel, sacristy, vesting/resting house and a pavilion that will all be powered from these two combined systems. These buildings are not located near utility power and we don't want the poles spoiling the view. We mig...

Re: 4 terminal LiFePo batteries - will they work?

I managed to work with the battery manufacturer and get them to create a 2 terminal version of their battery, which I am currently using in one of my many flexpower systems. These batteries work great with my Flexpower 8048A system. They are designed to handle more than the full charge and discharge...

Stacked Flexpower

I have 2 identical systems each comprised of an FP8048A with 7320W PV and 1150AH battery banks ea. How do I stack them? They are 75 feet of wire away from each other. Each "system" has its own Mate3, battery management, and hub. The manual indicates that I should unplug the inverters from the "slave...

4 terminal LiFePo batteries - will they work?

I have the prewired Radian 8048A power center, with 2 FM80s and a GSLC. I have the opportunity to purchase some LiFePO batteries really cheap. They include a built in BMS. Only problem is that I noticed that they have 4 terminals (two positive and two negative). One pair is listed charge and one pai...

Re: OpticsRE Showing Offline

Is there anyway that you software guys can fix the OpticsRE offline issue automatically? Seems to me (being an old SW hack for 30 years) that you could determine that comms was lost with the Server and that you had been configured for OpticsRE, so every so often, you could try all the standard trick...

Re: Venting a Radian Inverter

I like the idea of a fan on a timer. I managed to create a vent. I used a rectangular box register (from Home Depot); bent metal tabs out and then affixed them to front of Pwr Cntr using sheet metal screws. The bottom of the register is a standard sized round vent tubing. Only issue is that the vent...

Re: Venting a Radian Inverter

No worries. I created the "closet" from extra space in the bedroom. It was a long rectangular bedroom, so I could afford to shorten it some. No clothes in there. Is there any good documentation on venting Radian inverters to the outside? It seems like a waste of electricity to remove the heat genera...

Venting a Radian Inverter

Id like some help on properly venting the Radian inverter. So, I've got a Radian 8048A and I'm backfeeding the grid and my loads are minimal, so it pretty much runs full tilt all day long. Bad news is that it generates a fair amount of heat and it is installed in a bedroom utility closet (only place...

Re: Battery parameter help

What limits the voltage during "Bulk" stage? Is it limited by the "Absorb" voltage setting, or by the "Amps" limit, or both? Also, I read online that the best method for GEL cell charging is via constant voltage; one voltage for Bulk and Absorb, and one voltage for Float. This method supposedly prev...

Settings for charging battery from grid

I have a partially built system with grid feed and batteries, but no solar, yet. (roof needs repairs first.) What settings should I choose in the Mate 3 Profile Wizard (or in the Inverter settings) such that the batteries are properly charged from the grid? I realize this is only temporary, until I ...

Re: Battery parameter help

What do the "absorb time" and "float time" values do?
I thought the charger holds the battery voltage at "absorption" voltage until amps drops really low.
And I thought that "float" stage was indefinite.
Sorry for the newbie questions.

ltuss wrote:Any shunt actively being used by a device must be enabled.
If a shunt is not being used by a device it should be disabled.
So then why was the shunt not enabled coming from the factory, since there were two FM80s pre-wired into this system?

Re: Profile Wizard and Flexmax Battery Config Differences

It is a good idea to set the FM's slightly higher than the inverters settings. It allows the FM's to contribute solar once the inverters absorb/float set points are achieved. Ok. Understood. FM setpoint should be slightly higher than inverter charger equivalents. Follow-on question: If the battery ...
