Re: grounding the subpanel

Grounding and Bonding are two different tasks or requirements and each have separate meaning and rules.
They both are too often misunderstood to mean the same thing.

Re: grounding the subpanel

You do understand that any separate ground rod can have a difference in potential to any other unbonded ground rod(s). Difference in potential can kill and damage equipment. Please supply NEC reference as to no need to a common bond at any rods except the 2 rods at service entrance location as you s...

Re: Solar Panel Grounding

Each array must be separately grounded. To clarify SCENARIO ONE: Suppose you have 2 arrays of panels, separated by some physical distance. You must bury a 10 foot grounding rod near the array, preferably near the combiner box which is hopefully very close to the array. From that grounding rod, you ...

Re: What's the Differences between FXR, Radian and Skybox

While connected to Grid the Battery's Sell Voltage setting in Mate3s will sell anything before batteries could ever get over charged. And during any day time grid loss the batteries have been likely already discharged from night before and are discharging still anyways because they are the sole sour...

Re: Solar Panel Grounding

Grounds are non-current carrying conductors and not classed or rated as other current carrying conductors.

Example: 100Amp service gets #6 and a 200Amp service gets #4 bare copper.

#6 bare copper does many amps

Now what about a pathway to ground for a PV array lightening strike?

Re: What's the Differences between FXR, Radian and Skybox

Where is your AC generator connected? If it's connected to the Gen input on your fxr then the fxr will regulate charging to the battery. But if it's connected to the fxr AC output (which I doubt) then it too would charge your batteries, unregulated, during a grid outage. Ahh, FXR only has AC IN and...

Re: What's the Differences between FXR, Radian and Skybox

Oh, okay. thanks again, Mike. I use the Enphase M215 micros, so then if they like the FXR's AC output (V and Hz) well enough and don't get dropped, I would still have their output offsetting the FXR Critical Loads during a grid loss. I may have to test this out to see what would happen. Now you have...

Re: What's the Differences between FXR, Radian and Skybox

Alright, Thanks, but I might need some more explaining. I am Grid Tied and my Sell Voltage doesn't let my battery voltage go above that setting in the Mate3s. And besides being grid tied my batteries are only maintained in PV Float since they are only used as a Backup to the Critical Loads. I always...

Re: What's the Differences between FXR, Radian and Skybox

Thanks Mike, That is a good explanation. That helps me and I'm sure it helps others too. As for a FXR not taking AC arrays at output, is that a physical limitation on lug terminals, or a electronic internal limitation? I have 4 PV panels with micro inverters besides the 30 panels on string inverters...

Re: GVFX3648 NOT SELLING AFTER REPAIR

Accurate diagnoses comes before remedy. Who can diagnose? Not your expert, but having pinched the ribbon cable may have taken this OB inverter into new issues not seen before being pinched. In other words even the "new" board may now have different "new" issue...or perhaps some other board(s) now in...

Re: GVFX3648 NOT SELLING AFTER REPAIR

If you can measure Ohms value of the good temp probe you could then look into buying a generic one of equal ohms value for a replacement.
You may have to solder the plug jack on from the bad probe so it connects to the board properly.

Re: GVFX3648 NOT SELLING AFTER REPAIR

Yep, those ribbon cables just about need a "shoe horn" to get in w/o pinching between clam shell halves. My board supplier parts guy folded up shop...don't know where to get that temp probe assembly, sorry.

Re: GVFX3648 NOT SELLING AFTER REPAIR

Clicking sound is not likely a settings issue...fix the cause of clicking and settings can then happen.

Besides efforts towards Settings, how about a check of wiring inside where board was replaced.

Ribbon cables can get pinched during reassembly, plugs can need reseated, etc.

Re: Vfxr3524 grid zero

Yes, wiring diagram please. Without diagram and reading above I see a major issue: Jumper between DP L1 & L2 are there for only having 120 VAC inverter which can only feed 1 of the 2 panel bus. So Jumper is required to be installed to feed the unfed second bus since lacking 240 VAC power source from...

Re: VFX3524 stops charging from generator/s

Start making all the physcial checks and voltage and ohms readings or checks...they can tell a lot.

A non-contact IR temperature meter is a good tool to check for uncommon high temps, which help find problems.

Re: FXR inverter firmware mismatch. Inverter 2 dissabled

Cycle or reboot the Mate...lift/remove RJ45 to HUB and reinsert again.
If that fails to correct it you can then try cycling the DC breaker that reboots the Mate.
