Re: Load shedding setting in FX AUX menus

Ahhhh.... I failed to notice that there is a "GenAlert" function, so have wired the alarm into that and it works just fine. Audible within the house.

Re: Load shedding setting in FX AUX menus

Thanks. I guess I could alternately use that menu to trigger the alarm since they both are activated by a voltage setpoint. (In this case the alarm is small enough that it can be operated by the AUX 12v without using a relay.) I may have to ensure that the two setpoints don't interfere w.each other,...

Load shedding setting in FX AUX menus

I'm planning to use the AUX OUT 12v terminals to trigger a small alarm and was looking through the various pages in the menu, most of which I can likely ignore as all I want to do is send 12v to the alarm when the voltage drops below about 23.5v. I've put a switch on the alarm itself so I can (tempo...

Re: Unusual low battery levels after minimal load

Luckily we are in range of a fixed wireless internet tower so we can monitor the battery bank. Thankfully our cabin is on the coast south of Melbourne (near the National Park which had fires last summer) so not in the area of the fires (yet, as it is early Summer). However my wife's family are 5 ho...

Do seriously consider getting a good battery monitor. .../.. Might have to invest in thet Trimetric, although the Outback/MATE system has always seemd to work OK.../... Re: Unusual low battery levels after minimal load

...I suffer from having chronically slept through math class.... Well, I was very much awake, usually with terror. I can still hear my eccentric English Gr. 11 maths teacher saying, "Ye gods, boy.... you can't even factor a quadratic equation!. Even a Hottentot could work that out!" (This was long ...

Re: Unusual low battery levels after minimal load

I had a Mate once, if memory serves, the LAN cable would allow you to mount your Mate remotely (connects between the Hub and the Mate). I didn't think it could connect to a PC, but I could be wrong about that... :-k No, you're right. I did in fact run a longer LAN cable upstairs at one point but th...

OK Set: Absorb voltage = 28.4 Absorb time = 4 hr. Float voltage = 27.0 Gen AC Amps in should equal maximum rated AC out from generator terminals. 30A for a 120V leg of your Onan? Re: Unusual low battery levels after minimal load

What would be useful is to be able to run a cable to a laptop and access the system from upstairs The Mate has a DB9 serial communication port, which is now considered "legacy" equipment but I'm sure it could still be used to connect to your PC. Not sure how much system adjustment it would permit, ...

Re: Unusual low battery levels after minimal load

Snow play day! How fun for you!! ;) If the inverter charger is the sole charging source, I'd double-check the Absorb, Float, and EQ voltages against the mfg. recommendation. Also, check the total AC IN Amps (Generator) and Charger AC Amps settings. While used, the generator must be able to provide ...

Re: Unusual low battery levels after minimal load

What is the Absorb Voltage set to for the Inverter charger? Is the charging Temperature Compensated? I'd not think an EQ charge necessary unless the specific gravity of individual cells varied by > 0.030 after a full, normal charge. Aha... Didn't see this before. It's set to 29.6!!! Absorb setpoint...

Re: Unusual low battery levels after minimal load

Can I really go down to 30% without damage? Again, is that 30% DOD (Raysun's original comment), or 30% SOC? 30% SOC would be bad. 30% DOD is fine. ...For your exercise, I'd recommend a 30% DoD from a fully charged battery (SoC=70%), and then recharging. Its going to draw the battery charge and volt...

re Red warning light trigger level, I found this elsewhere on the Forum, in a post from Greg Fordan:

For 24V:
25VDC or higher, Green
23VDC to 24.8VDC, Yellow
22.8VDC and below, Red

A quick Thank You to David in Tech Support, whom I spoke with recently about one of my MATE's soft keys not working.
I gave the contacts another careful cleaning and it seems to be back to normal, so it looks like I won't need to send it in for servicing after all :)

Re: Unusual low battery levels after minimal load

Hmmm.... I know that the batteries have to be worked well but I've always felt leery about less than 50% discharge... DOD vs SOC is a constant mixup, even after 12 years for me! 30% Depth of Discharge is the same as 70% State of Charge. That's another nice thing about SOC meters -- they help you ke...

Re: Unusual low battery levels after minimal load

IMO, the battery is not being worked hard enough to perform a full charge cycle. I'd recommend at least 30% Depth of Discharge (DoD) so that the charger stays in Bulk for a time before entering Absorb. When the charger enters Absorb is strictly voltage dependent and is dictated by battery physics. ...

Re: Unusual low battery levels after minimal load

Screenshot_20200110-073911_Adobe Acrobat.jpg Trojan recommends charge current be 13% of the C20 rate. 50ADC would be about right. A series string will carry the current induced at the terminals through all cells. A 2 block string or 20 block string would see the same charge current. (Of course, the...

Re: Unusual low battery levels after minimal load

Another observation.... When I was exercising the system earlier in the fall - running on battery for a couple of hours every 2-3 weeks - I seem to recall that the genny or utility would be drawing around 1900W for the initial charge cycle, indicating a bulk charge. I didn't really document any of t...

Do you have a Flexnet DC? Nope. :( Provo asked about this way back near the top. Just the basic MATE.
